Member 2689 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees 2015.3 CLOSED (or Poptarts? Pet pics?) Took a rest day last night to go to a local cidery. It was a rousing success. Or maybe I should call it a sousing success. Had a flight of four 2.5 oz. glasses, plus shared an 8 oz. glass with DH and was looped for the evening. The cider was really dry but very good. I even liked the hopped one. I don't usually like hoppy anything, but it was made with Citra hops. It smelled really fruity and wasn't bitter at all. Another one was apple and raspberry - soooooo tasty!! I also tried a cherry cider from another Colorado cidery. It was sweeter because they "back-sweeten" with apple juice and was really yummy. "Dinner" was from a food truck parked outside and consisted of tater tots smothered in green chili and shredded cheese. Delish if not exactly healthful. They have Temptation Tuesdays, when they serve flights paired with various foods. Each week is a different type: cheese, tapas, chocolate(!), and pie, all locally sourced. In addition, they sell "growlettes" onsite and bottles in local liquor stores. Might have to pick some up every now and then. All three of the ones I tried were way better than most of the commercial stuff, which tends to taste over-sweetened to me. I foresee going there more often. Good thing I'll be active over the winter or I'd be accumulating a serious amount of winter "fluff" from all the extra carbs!! |

Interesting to hear it in a cider. I had talked about this interesting beer in a RR once: http://beerpulse.com/2014/01/grafft-seattle-cider-two-beers-and-new-belgium-brewing-release-collab-next-week-2164/ Which is a beer brewed with unfermented apples juice, so kind of the opposite. |

The beer festival was actually about 5 minutes from our house . It's been a wine festival in years past but I think changing it to beer was a success. They brought in a few out-of-state beers but it was mostly NM. We only tried brewers we'd not been to before. Got some great new ones to visit. Hot chocolate... Still haven't decided. Leaning toward not doing Santa Fe. I'd love to do the 15k but that late start just makes it hard for me to choose that one. Still waiting, also, on word from DS2 about a possible visit |

I wish I could partake more but with so many awesome beer selections I tend to focus there. Sounds like you have some great food/drink places there. It is beer week here. Big block party last night at another of the microbreweries. After Saturdays Oktoberfest I was toning it down. Speaking of which this pic surfaced from said event.

Good thing I'll be active over the winter or I'd be accumulating a serious amount of winter "fluff" from all the extra carbs!! Aw, cool, glad you two got out to check out the cidery! Some of your description sounds very like the one I was at this past weekend: all locally sourced ingredients, they also have a selection with Citra hops (one of our purchases) and they offer baby growlers or one can bring their own big or little growlers for filling of 3 selected varieties. They also sell meads (but not as sweet as one typically associates with mead) and cysers. I will need to venture back in about 2-3 weeks when they release their cherry kriek, which is what I fell in love with on my very first trip. Most varieties are very small batch and seasonal, but they have a few that they offer all year round. All their ciders are dry, too, and the coolest thing is the fermentologist is constantly experimenting with different ingredient combinations and different fruits. One of my very faves is bonfire which has fish peppers in, which gives it a lovely heat. Mmmmm, I'll bet that would clear out my stuffy head! |

I didn't like it (I'm really not a beer drinker), but the name and the text on the can were pretty darned funny. Salty, you might like it if you like Citra hops. |

And Good Morning, Pod! It's Friday I'll catch up when I get back from my date with a horse. Pretty cool! My boys would love that. Did anyone see the running shoes on shark tank? We were at a restaurant when I briefly saw it (couldn't hear) on the bar TV. Curious about it. I googled it shortly after but didn't get much. |
