I was in the LBS and the owner is selling his Pinarello Dogma 60 road bike... It's quite the bargain!  Here's a pic of a similar machine... Weighs in at 14lbs... selling it for 11...   Retails for 13-5....   yes boys & girls...a bargain at $11,000...  I am not a road bike fanatic...but this machine may be sexier than a Kate B. & Kate H. sammmcih!

Unfortunately that would cost much more than 11 grand =

Quiet weekend... Hope everyone has had a good weekend with some good training! I am back in Clemson and exhausted from this long weekend. I learned I never want to live in Atlanta, there's way too much traffic. I got in workouts yesterday and today (ran 4.4 miles today without any pain in my shins ) Hope everyone's well rested for a good week of training!!

Wow ... what a wet and wild race weekend. It proved that it's not always beautiful in Southern California. The race was okay, played it safe and finished in one piece.

Congrats on a great race Jessica!!

Between your tri and the OWS peeps, I'm having some major envy at the moment.  I'm itching for tri time!!!

I'm contemplating this insane race...http://toughmudder.com/events/bear-creek/.  I blame peer pressure.  It does look like a fun day....well, maybe with the exception of freezing cold water and squeezing through confined spaces.

And free mullet cuts.  Looks like a lot of fun.  Similar to the McGuire Mud Run in NJ but tougher obstacles.

Justin you look so excited to swim.    Did your boy bits divorce you afterwards?

Happy monday peeps.  I hope everyone is having a good one.  I had this huge surge today to really get some stuff done at work and now I've created more work for myself.  I love when I do that.

Nah, the ol' zoot suit kept 'em toasty... my face, hands & feet...not so much!  About 200yards into the swim I was getting a brain freeze headache, like I had just swallowed half an icee in one gulp!  It eventually passed...but it was so cold I was short strokin' (quit it Nicole!) my swim stroke... my muscles were so tight it was hard to extend and finish the swim stroke!  I am not rushing back out to the lake anytime soon.

I am, however, going camping the 13th-17th at Fairfield Lake State Park about 2hrs north of Houston.  The lake there is a hot water discharge lake for a TXU Electrical Power Plant... so the water is like 70 degrees. I am taking the suit and hope to squeeze in a swim or two... between some great fishing of course!

Question.... I've had issues with a tight ITB/knee soreness in my left leg off & on for the past 5+ years.  As long as I stretch and use the foam roller I'm able to keep in under control and it doesn't really bother me.  Since last September I've had to pay more attention to it, and my left hammy's, inner thigh and calf get extremely tight and just feel "off".  I've been getting a bit of knee pain, which I assume is a result of tight muscles/muscle inbalance.  My right leg feel fanastic...no problems whatsoever.  My left leg is slightly shorter than my right, and I'm wondering if this is the culprit.  I think it's time for me to go to a doctor and get this looked at before I get injured....but what kind of doctor would I go to for this?

My best friend is dealing with a very similar problem right now.  Turns out hers is a pinched nerve in her hip.

She origionally went to an orthopedist (sp?) who referred her all over east Jesus for a bunch of tests and what not, but they did finally get to the root of the problem.  Depending on your insurance, you may need to start with your primary care doc and go from there so that you don't get slapped with a bunch of charges for not working your way up the food chain in the correct order. (ie, going to a specialist without a referrral)

As a side thought, do you wear orthodics in your running shoes?  I have hip/knee issues as well, but the orthodics work wonders in keeping my wonky turnout at bay.

Oddly enough, the fire actually doesn't bother me.  Going through underwater tunnels terrifies me and jumping off the 15 ft plank doesn't exactly thrill me....let's not foget how many times you're likely to end up in the water and how cold it'll be.  I hate being cold!!

I don't wear orthodics.  But it's a possibility that this could be the answer for me.  But as much as I try to play doctor & diagnos and treat myself, it's not exactly working this time.

One thought on what kind of doc to see.  Most orthopedic groups include a specialty called *physiatry.*  Basically, an orthopedic rehab specialist that doesn't cut, although most do minimally invasive work.  You can work with them on non-surgical interventions and then get referred when or if you need the knife, which for ITB should be never.  I see one here in NJ that specializes in sports med but there are some really good ones in NYC.  Hospital for Special Surgery has an excellent reputation.  Here are the physiatrists that practice sports medicine in NYC and HSS.  Just a thought.  Starting with your primary care doc is also a good idea but I know mine doesn't know squiddly about sports medicine.  Fortunately my insurance doesn't make me jump through that hoop.

Hope you are able to diagnose/treat/manage quickly!

By special request am sharing yesterday's fun and games at the pool. For those that already read my log, feel free to skip and read on.  Apparently it was *Pervert Day* at our Y and I missed the announcement.  Pool was full up with 2 in every lane in the pool I was swimming and and lots of circle swim in the "serious" pool.  Anyhow, most of us are regulars and at 7am on Sunday there isn't much chat, just nods and waves.  I'm not stopping other than to check my workout but notice one of the guys in the next lane isn't really swimming.  He swam maybe 4 or 5 laps the entire 30 mins he was in the water.  What he was doing was just leaning against the wall ahem adjusting himself.  Ok, I understand sometimes you gotta reorganize the sock drawer but really????  Felt kind of sorry for the guy in the lane with him and swam as close to the center in mine as I could without causing a head-on collision.  Why is there so much Y weirdness?
