So piggy backing on all these posts....I only have one bottle cage on the main stem on the bike. Dumb question, but how do you add another on the frame? Do you drill a hole into your frame? I'm not at the point when I need to have the behind the seat holder like you hardcores have. Or do I buck on and get the aero bar drink holder thingamajig?

Don't listen to Kim!   You have to drill holes in your bike.

Personally, I would take it to my LBS and have them do it.  It seems to me that you will need something more than just two holes so that the little screws stay in and don't fall out....

-Andy

Andy, Don't make me start using this!

Oh.. while I'm thinking abt it.  I saw a Hotter than Hell Lodging post on the TX forum.  Will that help you for Katy Flatlands?

Happy B-day OLD MAN

It was about what I already knew...  No room at the inn.  I am not going to camp out in 100 degree weather.  I don't think others would appreciate my snoring a$$ in a bunk room at the Baptist church - there would probably be some real un-Baptist things said, etc...   I think I am set on the Katy Flatlands now.  Hopefully you can come ride, if not, I will represent for SWBKRUN MG!

As a former mechanic and a man with his own shop please follow Steve's advise. Do not drill holes in your frame!!!!

I would be worried about damaging the frame's integrity. Further it is very difficult to accuractly drill into a cylinder, let alone keep it perpendicular. Andy the holes nees to be threaded. If it is critical to have a bottle on the seat tube and the down tube I believe they make bottle holders that attach with thin metal straps that wrap around the frame tube. I would wrap the frame in some protective tape  before attaching the straps.

Hey Suzy:

Take a look at this bike in Columbus Ohio, a 48 cm Felt for $2500:

Felt tri bike, 48 cm. & Zipp 404 set. Shimano dura ace 9spd, 650 wheels, breaks are shimano 105. Good bike, just too small for me. Would like to sell the bike
and Zipp wheels together because of the size, but, it's not totally necessary.

Trev- your bike should already have holes for the other cage...or it doesn't.  I don't think you want to just drill holes into your frame!!!    My older Miyata (which I used for my first tri) only had the ability to mount one bottle.  You might have to do the behind seat thing.  I tried that with my Miyata and always felt kind of clumsy with it.  That's one reason I decided to go w/ the aero bar drink holder thingamajig....which I was kind of reluctant to do, because it looks so...racy...and I don't feel very racy...but it sure is convenient to just sip at the straw right in front of you!

Who's hardcore around here??? Oh, our wonderful mentor Steve?  Let's wish him lots of luck at Boise this weekend...and Roni too!  Barry has an Oly this weekend too!  Okay, let's have it, who else is racing this weekend???

Good luck racers.  Go get 'em and make the SWBKRUN team shine!

I'm doing a duathlon this weekend--YEAH NO SWIM!   I did it last year and had a blast.  Nice and short, 3.2m/17m/2m

Thanks so much for uncovering this.  If you look in my albums under trash I have my fit sheet from Cronometro.  I'm no genious when it comes to deciphering them, but I believe it would be too big.  Honestly, I have not found a stock frame that gives me enough clearance.

This article is pretty informative for those of us that have races or are training in hot and humid locations.

Hey Suzy, how tall are you?  Im fairly short myself and am curious what frame size I would take (all I know is that my bike now is a mens XS).  Im not planning on getting a new bike this year but probably will upgrade next year depending on how things go.

Suzy:

I looked at the fit sheet and I cannot make much sense of it. I do know that a Felt may be one of the best options for you as they make some of the smallest stock tri-frames. Your quote of $12,000 for a custom frame seems high. Speeaking with the guys at IOS tonight, they said it shouldn't cost more than 5K. (Still alot, but better.)

Speaking of bikes, just getting the big rig ready... 5 bikes here that I have to pack up...

Cervelo P3C
Scott Plasma Ltd
Xlab TT
2 Kestrel Talons....
2 sets of Zipp Wheels
1 set of Mavics
3 Power Tapps...

I need an alarm for the garage alone... Or move them into the house... I am not sure why everyone is trusting me with their bikes.  I may have to slash all there tires !  Any help I can get for Saturday right?

She's Alive!!!  Seriously, thanks to all of you who left inspires and checked in with me lately. You may recall doc had me not running until orthotics arrived. They arrived today... and he just left for vacation. NO orthotics and NO RUNNING until he gets back on the 24th.  I've been so bummed that my first race (scheduled for July 5th) got moved to mid September but maybe it's a good thing given the orthotics development.

Been staying away from the running by swimming, biking and inline skating.  Well, a skate workout ended with road rash along the entire right side of my body. It was awesome - I've been skating for years but hit a root coming through pavement on a hill and lost it. Skidded on my side for about 12 feet and then popped back up and kept going. A bike cop saw it happen and caught up with me. He said it "that was the best recovery I've ever seen.. but do you realize your right arm is covered in blood?"   Thank god for wrist guards.

Anywhooo... that injury plus the tendonitis plus the moved race date sort of sent me into a funk.  Then I got my act together and said HTFU!  Been reading all the awesome race reports and am so excited again. Considering a mini-sprint on the 27th of June to at least get some experience under my belt. We'll see what doc says about the run.  I may just say WTH and walk really fast if I have to.

OK, back to catching up on posts... can't believe how fast our board moves.  Also have to fix my training log - tried to change training plans and lost a bunch of data. Wish me luck.

Ugh! I went for a short ride today and one of my aero pads must have fallen off when we went back to Kalispell last weekend. I'm really hoping I can find one in Boise... otherwise I'm going to be VERY uncomfortable in aero Driving over tomorrow morning and I'll check the local bike shops and expo. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!!!

I just wanted to drop the group a quick note. The Wife and I decided to take Avery on her first vacation this weekend. We are in Newport RI now and headed to Boston on Friday. Good luck to everyone racing this weekend. I will finish my virtual tri when we return on Monday. I just got back from a 7 mile run on the cliffs overlooking the ocean and down belleview Ave with all the famous mansions. Wow, they are amazing and HUGE. Great way to start the day, I just hope the weather clears up.

Suzy - we think alike.  Best case scenario we would finish the race around 11:30 ... the recital is at 1:30.  Trouble is it is a 6 hr drive so there is no way to pull it off.  We will be there next year if anyone wants to do a fun race and weekend in Atlanta  Smile

Trevor:

Forget what I said about attaching a 2nd bottle cage with straps. I doubt it would work with the Cervelo oval tubes. You do have a lot of room behind your seat though. I would put a cage or two there. I am sure with training rides you would get used to it.

BTW: Looks like a lot of dandruff on the ground around your bike. You might wanna do something about that.

LOL, is that picture from yesterday with all the snow?

Put an aerobottle on the front + the bottle on the frame = plenty of water for Olympic.

For 1/2 and more you could put an x-lab or similar rear bottle ejector on the seat/post.  Though most bigger events have bottle exchanges so you don't have to always bring all of your own liquids.

i'm a maybe..  my old and new bike is still at the lbs (they're moving around parts and stuff).  If I don't get my bike and or if it's raining i'm a no.  I don't want to ride in the rain on a mountain course in the rain with a bike i've only ridden for 3 miles so far..  I was looking forward to the bike course too, it's supposed to be very challenging.  There is one hairpin turn at the end of a 3-4 mile curvy down hill with 5%+ grades and many people don't slow down enough and either fly past it or fall in a grass field.  Then after that there is a 5%+ grade 3-4 mile climb..
