Both the bike and run special needs bags are right on the road on separate sides. A volunteer will take them from you and then arrange them by number. During the race, they will call out your number in advance and have them ready for you. The only transportation required is you walking up the road to drop them off. I understand transitions stuff needs to be in bags on Saturday, but does that include nutrition for the bike, like bottles full of liquids? I thought we'd have access to the bike Sunday morning to load bottles, fill up bento boxes, etc. I know we can air up tires on Sunday morning so I figured we'd have access to the bikes. |

Champion 6656 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread So I think I've decided to err on the side of caution after hearing about all the Ironman Perform issues people have had and just carry my own nutrition for the most part. It is a bit of a pain but I figure trying the Ironman Perform for the first time and ending up in GI distress is not the way to go. Canada's equivalent of the FDA hasn't allowed it here get due to the amount of sodium so I haven't been able to practice using it. Who else is primarily carrying their own nutrition vs. feeding off of what the course provides? |

Bring that with you the morning of so your nutrition doesn't get nasty overnight. You're right on with your thought with having access to your bike the morning of the race. That way you can check it over, remove any plastic bags you may have put on your seat and handlebars (recommended bc of dew or rain), get the tires pumped up and put your bottles and nutrition on it. I'm only this knowledgeable because I worked transition last year and was able to sneak in with my wife the next day because I still had my transition volunteer band on. |

More of a will the weather be so warm that they can't find a cold spot. USAT official takes the temperature at an arms length down (so about three feet from the surface). Weather in LP in predicted to be in the low 90s over the next few days with no rain. Just looks like it'll be a potential. |

What weather sites are yall looking at, I see 89 on Accuweather for one day and a little less on weather.com, with temps range from high 40-mid 60's at night. It doesn't bother me either way but I bet it is no where near 81 degrees and it will be wetsuit legal. I remember reading Kansas 70.3 threads and showing the Corps reading of 81 degrees. They must have read that at surface temperature at the office cause I really doubted it. I was swimming in 80 degree water in MS and I had been watching the weather for a month and I knew we were alot warmer than Kansas was. We got up there and I sent my 6 year old daughter in the lake first to see what her reaction was. She turned around and said its cold Daddy, I knew we were good to go then. Lake was 74 degrees. |

Not to be snarky, but why? If you don't like a wetsuit, don't wear one. I'd like a cool morning with chilly water. I enjoy swimming with my wetsuit on and would prefer if the water's not too warm. |

Is it? You're not out there for very long and (especially on the run) you're at an aid station every mile with tons of stuff. If I haven't trained with it, I'm not using it on race day and everything I've trained with is on the course (and then some). |

I swim better against the field without a wetsuit. There is barely any difference in my swim times when wearing a wetsuit than when not wearing a wetsuit. Most people gain a pretty significant advantage, I don't. If the swim is wetsuit illegal, I end up swimming better (relative to the field). Its not about me wearing or not wearing a wetusit. Its about everyone else. |

Any thoughts?? Interesting question. I'd prefer a wetsuit but wouldn't hesitate for a second to race without one. Just getting to the start of an IM takes a lot of work so I have to think (hope) not too many people would pull out. |
