Pre-race routine:

I began my pre-race routine the night before by eating jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon, brats and drinking beer. Sounded good at the time. In the morning, I woke up at 4:30am drank my coffee and ate a bagel with peanut butter. Racked up the bike and headed to the Westside Aquatic Center. I was running late so I was trying to get my bike off my car as quickly as possible, when the girl next to me asks me if I could pump up her tires. Of course, I had to do that. It was now 6:30 and I knew transition closed at 6:45. My swim start was 7:05. I asked hers - 7:45! Once I finally made it into transition, I threw everything somewhat in order, but forgot something. I forgot to get body marked and my chip! Crap!
Event warmup:

A quick sprint to get my chip and bodymarking and a few laps in the pool.
Swim
  • 06m 56s
  • 437 meters
  • 01m 35s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was good. Probably could have picked up a few more seconds if I had seeded myself a little better.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Uneventful. Shoes, sunglasses and helmet went on easily. No issues.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 42m 36s
  • 15 miles
  • 21.13 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride. Really wanted to bust this one out. I got a flat tire last year and had to walk my bike. I pushed pretty hard and the results showed. I am sure my HR was high, but did not wear my Garmin. It's a sprint. It's supposed to be high! No real issues.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Maybe use the big ring more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Good T2. Still need to get some Yankz or lace locks.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23m 20s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

PR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Run felt real good. I was a little concerned at first because I did push hard on the bike. For the first mile, my legs would not loosen up. Finally my calves relaxed and I could start picking up the pace. Ran hard through the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran into my physical therapist who was volunteering at the finish line and chatted with her while meeting up with my wife. GRabbed some water and Gatorade to cool down.

Event comments:

Another good race by Set Up. I really enjoy participating in their events.

AWESOME RACE! Speedy all around!  Big points for helping the girl out too.

That's why my run has been poor lately... I've only been crushing beer the night before the race...not beer AND jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and brats.

Great job! You are looking good for Augusta. Maybe one day we will actually meet each other in person since we live in the same town and race a lot of the same races, lol.

Awesome race!  Apparently you didn't get held up in your swim by the guy that did breast stroke the whole way and was in the pool way early.
