Elite 4372 Connecticut | Subject: RE: IM Canada watching thread KathyG - 2009-08-31 4:00 AM Thanks for the support everyone... I think this was the hardest thing I've done and for a couple of hours thought I was going to DNF. Started cramping every hill after mile 47, then started puking so couldn't take in water/nutrition the rest of the bike. I felt so awful and my legs had nothing in them. My mind was gone and all I wanted to do was lay in the shade but there was none and no aid station. I had to walk up some of the hills otherwise my legs would cramp very badly. I didn't pee for about 7 hours and was dehydrated. I pulled myself out of the darkest place I've ever been racing and was able to finish the bike within the cut off and that I'm proud. Run went well in a relative way...ran a lot PBed the run. I knew I could PB if I ran hard last three miles and I did with about 11 m/m and passed a lot of people no one else of was running. This was my victory...the course did not beat me. This was very difficult for me and not what I expected but I'm happy with my mental fortitude. Incredible job overcoming each obstacle. You are the best Kathy!!!!!! |

That means she'll be at something like her 20th Kona...One of the truly amazing, ongoing stories about triathlon. I passed her about mile 11.4 on the run. We chatted briefly about how our day went. Someone was with her and she was trying to find someplace to sit and sat in the crook of a tree right near the house we were staying at. I was surprised at how thin she was and of course she is very fit. I didn't see her again after the turn around and was worried about her but it had become dark and hard to see someone specifically other than you knew it was a person. At the athletes dinner I think they said it was her 40th IM. She had finished 2 times in her AG 75-59 at Canada and missed finishing by 13' another year. She is 79 so next year she ages up! |

Thxs folks tough ar*e day out there I have never seen so many fast people walking the run up where I was. Hot stinking day and the run course is really tough. Personally I had a fantastic bike really attacked it. I had the run fitness to run a 3:45 but wasn't going to happen on race day with the heat so had to make it up on the bike!
