Run
Comments: I was hoping for 11 minute miles for the first five miles, then I wanted to go progressively faster, ending the last mile at 10 minute per mile. I didn't quite make it. I tried to turn on the gas during the last half, and I did run the last half faster but not as fast as I was hoping. This run ended up being a little over 60 seconds slower than last year. Nevertheless, it felt good. My left knee started bothering me a little during the last two miles, and it was very painful after I stopped running. But except for walking a few seconds at the water stations, I ran the whole thing. What would you do differently?: I think I can confidently say that I am 10 mile/15k fit. While I am not speedy at these distances, I am comfortable. There is never a doubt that I'm going to finish and finish strong. ("Strong" in terms of my own ability.) Running the 25k the week before this run probably hurt me a bit. I'm not sure. I wasn't able to run all week, except for a few minutes on Wednesday morning. I was still feeling a little sore Thursday, and decided that running Friday, even though I felt great, wasn't going to help much and could potentially hurt. Post race
Warm down: Walked. I was grumpy. I'm not used to having people at the finish, and while it's nice to have people I know there, it also causes pressure. They want me to be "mom," and "wife," and "daughter," and all I want to do is find water and something to eat. I made my little guy cry because I was short with him. Once I had eaten something and had some water, I felt a little more normal, and I apologized to him. He said it was okay, but I told him it is never okay for me to be short with him for no reason. What limited your ability to perform faster: Last race of the season. My body is tired. Last updated: 2012-10-23 12:00 AM

Got up early; took a shower; ate breakfast; then got everyone else up and ready to go. This was going to be a little crazy. I was running the 10 mile and my mom and two sons were running the 2 mile. Plus hubby was going along for the ride.
Got everyone's race numbers; stood in line for the potty; ran back to the car to get running hats for the two boys. Made one last dash to the potty, then got in place.
