Total Time = 1h 49m 26s
Overall Rank = 501/617

Age Group Rank = 17/38
Pre-race routine:

Got up early; took a shower; ate breakfast; then got everyone else up and ready to go. This was going to be a little crazy. I was running the 10 mile and my mom and two sons were running the 2 mile. Plus hubby was going along for the ride.
Event warmup:

Got everyone's race numbers; stood in line for the potty; ran back to the car to get running hats for the two boys. Made one last dash to the potty, then got in place.

Comments:

I was hoping for 11 minute miles for the first five miles, then I wanted to go progressively faster, ending the last mile at 10 minute per mile. I didn't quite make it. I tried to turn on the gas during the last half, and I did run the last half faster but not as fast as I was hoping.

This run ended up being a little over 60 seconds slower than last year. Nevertheless, it felt good. My left knee started bothering me a little during the last two miles, and it was very painful after I stopped running. But except for walking a few seconds at the water stations, I ran the whole thing.
What would you do differently?:

I think I can confidently say that I am 10 mile/15k fit. While I am not speedy at these distances, I am comfortable. There is never a doubt that I'm going to finish and finish strong. ("Strong" in terms of my own ability.)

Running the 25k the week before this run probably hurt me a bit. I'm not sure. I wasn't able to run all week, except for a few minutes on Wednesday morning. I was still feeling a little sore Thursday, and decided that running Friday, even though I felt great, wasn't going to help much and could potentially hurt.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked. I was grumpy. I'm not used to having people at the finish, and while it's nice to have people I know there, it also causes pressure. They want me to be "mom," and "wife," and "daughter," and all I want to do is find water and something to eat. I made my little guy cry because I was short with him. Once I had eaten something and had some water, I felt a little more normal, and I apologized to him. He said it was okay, but I told him it is never okay for me to be short with him for no reason.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Last race of the season. My body is tired.

Congratulations on a great race. I don't think there's any doubt that the 25k affected this race, so you should feel confident that you are a stronger runner this year as compared with last.

Good job and an even better outlook. No doubt the prior race has affected this one.

Felicia = one tough mama!   Wow, to have raced a 25K last week and now a 10 miler, there's no doubt you didn't quite hit your goal.  Taking that same knowledge into account, I think you did a very, very good job at this race!  You still were able to decrease your minutes per mile and run the whole thing.  Great job!

Great job Felicia.  I like your comments about being fit for 10m/15k. Handling the family can be ... um, interesting ... when we are trying to focus on ourselves and our race. Way to pull off a great race on the heels of a 25k.

Geeze, your time is so close to the last one in the heels of a 25K race. I'd say all signs point to a big improvement.

Yeah, I like that you say you are 10k/15k fit. I say keep racing those and training for a little more endurance!

Great job!

Nice race Felicia!  Way to go!

I know what you mean about having people at the finish.  I always feel like I have to hurry up and get my act together when I really need that five minutes or whatever to find food or water or whatever.  I'm happy to see them but need some time for me as well.  Very conflicted, I know.

I agree with Salty.  You just did your 25k and conditions were less favorable than last year.  This points to a big improvement in the past year!  Excellent work!

Way to go Felicia.  I know what you mean by seeing yourself as "10 mile/15K fit".  I was commenting to one of my kids that I like that I can roll out of bed any day of the week and run a half marathon and not be worried about not finishing.  You should be very proud of that.  I also know what you mean about being tired after a race and not having to deal with other responsibilities.

I am so impressed by your times--especially by the last times--do you usually speed up in the last few miles? I find that's where I tend to slow down...

As for the post race, I tend to want to just be left alone for the first few minutes after the finish line, just to decompress...I never really have anyone there though, but I bet that I would be short with them if I did. It sounds like your little one understood.

Good race--take a break and let your body recover ---you totally deserve it!
