Subject: RE: Has anyone ever donated a car to charity?Depending how much time you want to go through, you might be able to do what I did. I went to a local homeless shelter, and asked if they could accept a car if I donated it. They were not set up to legally do so, but when they got offers, they asked if it would be ok to line up someone they would recommend that could use it, and then I could just give it to them. So I said sure. I had to go to the tag place and do a title transfer where I sold it to him for $1. The guy who got it, (and it was an ugly car, but in working condition with no issues) had been walking work from this shelter for a long time, and had a good work ethic. 2 weeks after he got the car, my wife saw him driving it, with a woman along. We thought maybe getting wheels helped him in more ways than one. So there's something you could do - it takes more time, and probably no tax deduction, but it is quite rewarding. |
