When I went to the pool today I had a awesome swim! I swam 3500 yrds in 1 hour and 5 min all front crawl non stop at a 1min 52sec 100 avg. WOW! Thats not to bad. (for me anyway)

I know this is just the warm up for some of you but when I first started doing tri's two years ago, I thought this impossible for me. I was struggling to make 50yrds without breathing like I had just sprinted a mile. The swim wasn't much better last season so told myself that this season the swim was going to be one of the better events for me. If I can swim like this in all of my events this year, I'll actualy still see some swim caps bobbing around in the water while I'm running to T1.

Very nice swim. Major congrats. I am also working extremely hard to conquer this swim thing so I can only imagine how terrific that must feel.

I can't think of very many people who would call that a warm up swim.  That is fantastic!

You should be more proud of yourself than you are showing.  I'll bet 70% of this board could not do 2 miles straight (including me right now).

bty, in 2005 sofreshsoclean and I got into a swim contest.  I would do 2 miles, he did 2.5, 2.7, 3.  It was killing me.  Knowing he was a college swimmer and could do way more than me I had to put it where he would not WANT to do it.  I did 5 miles plus a 50 meter (in case I messed up my counting).  Here is my log http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/index-weekly.asp?memberid=25806&year=2005&month=12&day=16

Congrats!

umm... I've been swimming for 14 years, and 3500y isn't just a warm up. Sure, we go 6000y some days, but you'd be closer to that mark had you actually stopped and rested during intervals.

I say that's a pretty darn good swim!!!

i just started training for my first triathlon two weeks ago and I'm in that barely do 50yrds without stopping boat. I'd be thrilled if i could swim 3500 nonstop in 2 years.

Great Job

Keep at it smcollins, The only swim training I had was a masters program for 2 months last summer and I just started swimming again in mid december for a 1/2 ironman in May and things just started to click a few weeks ago, so keep going it will get better if you keep it up. Good luck!

Stick with it. I also just started training for a triathlon and could only swim 25yrds nonstop in my first session. Just this week after 12 swimming session I did 1200yrds nonstop in 18mins.

Great job on the time and distance.  I'm no where near that but I'd like to be.  One thing I'd be interested in knowing is how you counted your laps.  When I do longer distances I lose count.  What did you do to stay focused?

3500yds is a lot... thats about the longest swim days I have ever done. I havent done it all continuous like that though.

Out of curiousity, what made you want to swim 3500 continuous instead of breaking it up? Just curious.
