Subject: Personal running SLOW records

It's great checking out all the hot people and their hotter times in the personal run records thread, but as was said there, this is BEGINNERtriathlete.com.

I have far more incredible memories, and am far more proud, of some horribly slow races ... I remember what a triumph and struggle they were.

So here's my slowest ever "running" (walking) pace, for any distance:

Honolulu Marathon 2005, 8:59:44 (20.6 min/mi)

(Details: I got out of a hospital on Wednesday, and went into the marathon still extremely ill on Sunday. It was very selfish, I should not have done it, and it was the most horrifying, miserable 9 hours of my life in tropical heat. However, I learned things about myself, and just how deep I could dig, that I would not trade for the world.)

I did a half marathon in 3:25:19.

Of course I was dressed like Willy Wonka and slightly intoxicated.

LOL, thinking about the Willy Wonka getup combined with the "Aggressive position" post. Wonder what that would like???????

HIM run time of 3:12.  Legs cramped on biked but I kept going.  Had to walk probably 11 miles total on the run.

AH HA HA HA HA ... omg you beat me to it ... 'cause I read Derek's post, then posted in the Agg Pos thread, and believe it or not I was thinking the SAME THING! (Especially ironic since he has such a cool bike shot as an avatar ...)

I would pay good money to see that.

I will probably be the slowest swimmer ever after having surgery on both of my shoulders in the past year. First triathlon is next week. I swim like a jelly fish.

Hmm...how about a really unappealing reverse-negative split:

My first marathon:

1/2 split: 1:53
2nd 1/2... 3:03

Can you say, "Went out way too freaking fast"?

Wasn't that when we were trying to pass the lady in black and the cane guy? I remember being pissed they were beating us. We just couldn't figure out why...

That is hilarious!!!!!

I did a half in just over 3 hours, because of a 20 minute long stop with the paramedics, terrible, and in my 1st 15k ( 2:02) I had the pick- up van continuously asking if I was ok! " I'm slow, I'm fine, ok?" It was so annoying!

Well, speaking of creepy costumes and creeping along ... yes, she is--her name is Rosie (Chilean rose hair, original I know), she is not a very good running partner, but she is delightful and furry and cuddly just the same. She can book when she wants to, though ... she's made it across a 5m floor in several seconds. However, I don't think there's a limit to her slow record ... sometimes she sits in the same spot for weeks.

What kinds of creeping-along things have you got?

I love her name! Very cute!!!! My 1st tarantula was a Chilean rose hair, wonderful spiders! My 1st 2 tarantulas were males and didn't live past 5 years, I have a Brazilian Black now( Sheelob), and I'm hoping she's a female. Other than her I have a bearded dragon named Sunflower and a ball python named Monte Houdini. Creepy crawlies are awesome!

HyVee Triathlon June 2007.

It was a rough race for me, I'm not what you would call a runner anyway - but I had actually gotten to the point that I could pretty comfortably run 6 miles when I pulled my hamstrings - yes both legs - did it on a bike ride about 6 weeks b4 the race.

Then, the morning of the race, put my foot down on the floor to feel quite a bit of pain in my right heel - little did I know that pain was the beginning of a very long battle with PF.

Anyway, between my hammy's still being iffy, and my heel - well, I wasn't a speed demon - lol

I actually had a super fun time though and met a really nice gal from Des Moines - she had gotten kicked really hard during the swim and was having as much trouble as I was running.  We ended up going the whole way together, alternating running and walking (i call this ralking - lol)

We even went across the finish line together, which was pretty cool.

I did a 20-miler in 3:40 [not slow by my athletic standards] and three weeks later did a 26.2-miler in 5:30.

Sadly, that slowest-marathon PR is also my fastest

I had a red-rose tarantula for 12 years. His name was Pedro. A fun, little guy. But, he could be feisty. He was never really interested in crawling on my face like Rosie. He would always obey the command "stay". Great pet.

On my first run where I actually recorded distance I did just over 18-minute miles.  Then a few weeks later I did 16-minute miles and was amazed at how speedy I was.  That was for running about 1.5 miles.  I'm glad I looked that up...puts my current 12 min. miles into perspective.

One hour and 3 minutes for a 5K!  My slowest 5k ever, by far, but it was the most rewarding crossing the finish line with my mom.  There are races when it really is not about the clock and setting PRs.  Here's my RR if you are interested.
