Subject: Vacation Ideas

I have Masters week off (I'm from Augusta, GA) and I'll be in the last month before Gulf Coast HIM.  Any good ideas for a vacation second week of April where I can still train.  At first I was thinking of Amsterdam to look up my ancestors, but the training wouldn't be very possible there.

I'm single again so I want to have fun, also.  Money is not a big consideration (could afford 3k for the week or so if it was really worth it. Looking to spend 1-2k or so).  Any good ideas?

I have a few friends who swear by the sandals.com vacations. All-inclusive, relatively cheap price. Don't quote me, but I think a week in Jamaica, everything included, is around $3k.

Go skiing!

I believe Jackemy has extended an open invite to crash at his place in Maine.

They are still getting snow dumps out West.

Ski!

The resorts in Jamaica are nice, but you couldn't train there... too dangerous to leave the resort. Also not any singles there. Families and couples mainly, unless you went to hedonism.

If I were single and had a week with a lot of money to spend and I wanted to train, I'd head to Southern Florida. Miami, key west, etc. Or go to Puerto Rico. Or up near Destin, FL. That's a beautiful area, plus you can drive down there, so you can spend more on your accomodations...

Got altitude sickness when I went to Steamboat two years ago. Almost Medi-vac'ed.  Ack!

Iceland. The flights are pretty cheap from NY (obviously you'd have to get to NY first), and it's relatively easy to travel there... and closer than Europe. Lots of great bike/run paths.

Cancun would be better.  Although it would be more work to take the bike.  But it would have a  better "fun factor" being spring break and all.

I still vote for the Emperor's Club though.  It's always spring break time there!

I can tango.  So that's an idea.

I'm prolly a bit too old for Spring Break type gals. I just got done dating a 26 year old, which was cool, but 37 year old men and 19-21 year old women would creep me (and likely them) out.

Gulf Coast, IMFL and Spring Beak in the same year? hmmmm. Maybe.

And finally, what is the Emperor Club?

I should have put up a poll. JK.

One year I put down my money on a cycling tour of Sonoma and they didn't have enough people to do the trip and I had to do something else.  That would be fun.

Last year we drove to Key West. Key West was ok but not exactly what I expected. We caught a boat from there and went to the Dry Tortugas. We stayed on the island where Fort Jefferson is located. It is a National Park. No bike riding but you can run around the island and have plenty of water for OWS's . You can either take a day trip to the island or camp. We camped for 2 nights. There is no electricity, no bathrooms, cell phones don't work, total seclusion. You have to take you own tent, food, water, etc. I know what it sounds like but it is soooo cooool. All they supply for you is a place to put your tent and a fancy port-a-potty. Trust me it is well worth the time if you don't mind roughing it for a couple of days. Go on line and check it out.

You don't want to ride a bike in Cancun. The drivers are crazy.
