Pre-race routine:

Woke up had a shower and some breakfast, a quick scan of BT then down to the Running Room store to meet up with some people.
Event warmup:

Got to the store an hour before race time put my stuff upstairs and was ready to go. Jogged down to the start line and met up with my work team that we entered. Waited for most people to show up and get a picture but our picture taker didn't arrive. 7:50 get into a better starting spot.
Run
  • 59m 34s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 58s  min/km
Comments:

Over all I am happy really tough in the start to get going. Walkers were told to start separately but they were everywhere with strollers and it was quite annoying. At 3k I was thinking finally getting into my groove then teh turn around and we came to a stop. it was crazy I had to walk probably 200 m 100 on each side of the turn around. After that is was good and took the hill nice and strong and am really happy with that last k time. It actually felt good to get out and run like that. I can't do that pace the whole time but the last bit I could have pushed longer and harder.
What would you do differently?:

Start closer to the front trying to get around walkers and stroller
Post race
Warm down:

through the food tent (mmmmmmmm cookies!!!!) and a walk around, to watch others finish

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think the start but hey at least there are that many people out there doing it

Event comments:

Good race!! The race package pickup was a disaster to many different instructions coming through email on how to do it. Was a complete Cluster @#$% (you know what) They didn't have our shirts. They wanted you to pay to get in and get them because they had a health expo at the same time blah blah blah

Nice job out there, Shawn!  I can understand the frustration of trying to get by the walkers and strollers but you have a great attitude about it... it is nice to see so many people showing up for a 10k!  Thanks for the reminder .

That is an awesome time considering the barriers!  What a huge turnout for the race--wow!  Sorry about the confusion around the shirts, that always sucks some of the fun out of it.  My event was tiny, maybe 120ish people competing....nice....but, the big runs are fun in their own way!  Not to mention, the cookies.  Mmmmm.....cookies.

Great job!

Great job Shawn!!  Great attitude about your obstacles too!  Other than the obstacles, I bet it is fun to do such a big race . . .

Nice job pushing that final lap - I bet it felt great to finish so strong!! :D

Wow, Shawn, you are getting really fast on these runs. That's a super impressive race, especially with all the obstacles.

Great job out there with the strollers and the walkers.

Nice job Shawn!

I ran a 5k last fall that was 'as you described' - it was pouring that day - and I had barricaded by walkers, strollers, and umbrellas! If you are bringing an UMBRELLA to a run - then you shouldn't be up in front with the 'runners' - very annoying!

Hey Shawn, good job, a tip for the future, seed yourself higher up mate, I have been doing this race for the last 4 years and always get stuck behind slow people even when I start in the sub 40 area. Also wanted to say good job on those splits, looks like you finished really strong.
