Edited because my rant was off base. I prefer the term "adorning" to "disfiguring", but as you said, to each their own.

Newbie5317 - 2008-05-30 10:35 AM Is that on your upper chest or back? That artist did a real good job. The one thing people do the least amount of research on is something they will have on their bodies for the rest of their lives. Cheaper is NOT better when it comes to tattoos people! And if you have 5 tattoo shops in your city, only ONE is going to be very good. The rest are going to typically be average to shite. Do yourselves a favor and pay the extra $50, and check out the artist! Oh, and don;t get anything on your ribs. That hurts....alot....trust me.

Upper chest jst under my collarbone. When it's time and appropriate to get some work done again I am either going to emblazon (sp?) the rest of my chest or ribs... and it will be worth it.

I've got 10 hours worth on My entire right side, from hip to armpit. It looks incredible, and the piece I chose could go nowhere else, but for EVERY MINUTE of those ten hours I was thinking "this is the stupidest thing I have ever done". Not because I regret getting tattooed, or didn;t like the art I chose, but because of the extreme pain. I am going in next week for the final hour, but this will be my fourth time in the chair for this tattoo. I am not ashamed to say I could only handle 3 hours at a time.

ipull400watts - 2008-05-14 1:45 AM But seriously, I'm getting one too. After I finish my half I would like to get something that can then be finished when I do a full. And here's a picture of my current tattoo. Carpe Viam. Latin for Seize the Road.

Carpe viam, mihi crede,comes !

Everyone is different. For me, I see no good reason the permanently disfigure my body with corporate logos to reward an accomplishment. Over the years I've done many different kinds of events that have taken considerable time to become proficient at. I would be half covered in corporate logos trying signify all this stuff. But, to each their own.

Life shouldn't be all that serious babe.

But if you did have all those logos you would promote those businesses and in encourage people to buy their products thus helping our national economy! If you love your country you will get those tatoos!

mrbbrad - 2008-05-14 2:58 PM I think we should do a deeper dive and discuss getting a M-dot tattoo if you completed an iron distance tri that was not a sanctioned IronMan trademark race .
Why bother? Everyone knows that unless you've raced Kona, you're not a True Ironman, anyway.

You've been reading the Letters to the Ed in Triathlete Mag, haven't you.

If I ever finish IMC this August, I want to get a tattoo of AN Ironman. I'm not sure which one yet. But I'm open for suggestions.

I wonder how many people start it for the tattoo and never get one.
I mean to say, it is a carrot that I think many have to start an adventure and in then end after they finish, do they feel the same way.

I've never been marked but the needle, but I have contemplated it many times, I would love to get one, but I feel that I would out grow it.
I've questioned an MDot many times, and I think that if you want one then do it, if you don't do it.
I do think some rules apply, number one being you have to complete the race, so part now part later, just wait until it's done. That's it for rules.
Someone posted that unless you do Kona then your not an IM, and that's BS. I think that if you can do 140.6 then you are an IM regardless where you do it.

So my friend who has done 140.6 miles in a foot race is an IM?

If you're referring to my post, the red/italics was meant to connote sarcasm. There may be people who actually feel that way, but I'm not one of them.

I missed the red italics, totally my fault.

Just to add a few more to the discussion, here are my two. First from IMC2005 and is on my calf. The second is on my upper arm and from IMC2007. I also added "2007" under the existing "2005".

I realize what an accomplishment it is to complete any IM and applaud anyone that wants to put the IM tattoo on their body. Personally, I don't think it is very attractive and would opt for some other tattoo to signify the event.

My IM logo (which washed out with the flash, but wouldn't hurt to have redone), and a tree for each time I've done CdA.  Hopefully I'll add a cow this fall for IM Moo.

Actualy thinking about it now, it would be cool if NAS comissioned an IM Race logo for each individual race. A cow for IMMOO, Maple Leaf for Canada, Gator for Florida, etc...anyone have any tattoos of the such or any other ideas? It you be kind of cool, kind of like a trucker's hat with a pin for all the cities he's been in...or collectable spoons like my crazy aunt has all over her walls.

I'm not planning on LP anytime soon, but I reckon I'd do some sort of American flag.  Florida obvioulsy a sun, Arizona a cactus, Canada a maple leaf.... And if I ever make it to Hawaii (by lottery), then a big Hibiscus flower, probably all around the Mdot.

Cool tattoo. I could WIN Kona and then immediately turn around and do Kona in reverse and still not get the wife to approve a tattoo.

you would have just done 281.2.....I'd say to hell with her approval...

mrbbrad - 2008-05-14 3:06 PM I was sort of kidding... seems to be one of those hot items, like walking in races, flip turns, ipods, etc.

What about buckets?!?!?!?
