Age Group Rank = 1/9
Pre-race routine:

Got up, had an uncrustable, drove to race and set up transition, got body marked, chipped, and portapottied.
Event warmup:

50 yard swim in the duck pond
Swim
  • 10m 15s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

So So swim- this obviously is not my strong point, but I already knew that
I forgot my goggles and had to use my backups- which suck and fogged up immediately, but really didn't cost me any time
What would you do differently?:

swim more!
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

took an extra second or two here to make sure I had everything I needed
What would you do differently?:

practice- I still could have been 20 seconds faster
Bike
  • 42m 4s
  • 16 miles
  • 22.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Sweet ride! My best ever. I was passed by one person, then I played leapfrog with them the rest of the race. I mashed it out in my top 3 big gears and had the best ride yet. This was a classic time trial- I decided not to hold anything back here and see what happens on the run. I had very little company the rest of the race- and that was a good feeling!
What would you do differently?:

practice swimming- I think I am good here!
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

clean transition. I took about 5 seconds to capture my breath and took off for the run. No socks- great time saver for these short races. Flying dismount was my prettiest yet
What would you do differently?:

nada
Run
  • 22m 9s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

I thought I would struggle here, and I had a hard time getting into a rythym. I still had my run failure of gulf coast in my mind so I spent the first 1/2 mile establishing a doable pace. at the first mile I picked it up and started passing some folks on the second loop. I ended up racing the 50 yr old group winner to the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

I actually got comfortable on a few spots here which tells me I left a few seconds on the table, but I very happy with this split
Post race
Warm down:

water, cookie, coke and cheer on Courtney and Jamie. I knew I was getting hardware at this point but was pleasantly suprised to see how well I actually did

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swim!

Event comments:

fun low key event. pretty good post race spread for a small race. Race director is Czech- so he is hard to understand, but he put together a pretty good race. My favorite part was the DJ at the finish line. He was spinning some techno and bouncing around like he was at a rave. Looked totally out of place and it was hilarious!
