Total Time = 2h 02m 34s
Overall Rank = 382/494
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 13/16
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5, coffee, shower and shave legs, dressed, load bike up, bagel and cream cheese and pbj (one on each half). Water, Diet Pepsi. Son got up at 530 for some odd reason so had to get him situated with food/tv before I could leave. Drove the 20mins. Got there at about 5:50 am. Parked outside of park and rode bike in to get chip etc...
Event warmup:

No warm up..really...rode bike then stood in porty potty line and warmed up my mouth and vocal chords chatting. And ran into MaggyRuth who was in my wave. (wave 13 by the way).
Swim
  • 08m 43s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Sucked wind on this really. I was chatting and laughing about it being so shallow that I could walk! And when I swam, that's when I really moved. But this was the first time I didn't panic much.
What would you do differently?:

shut up and swim more
Transition 1
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

futzed around with toweling off too much.
What would you do differently?:

skip the water sips and toweling so much.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 7s
  • 22 miles
  • 16.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Again... 13 ranked..as in my wave... hmmmmm. Theme? Anyhow, really bummed about this performance. Had hoped to do better on my biking over last year. Wind felt huge but it wasnt' really. And wish I had gone in a later wave so I didn't have umpteen peeps pass me. I passed maybe 2, on the hill, and then one out on the course - a chick with a busted chain on the side of the road.
What would you do differently?:

Build stronger thighs and push harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

I paused a moment...'did I forget something?" nahhh
What would you do differently?:

move it on out faster.
Run
  • 30m 51s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

tried gatorade from station - YUCKMOLA! I will stick with h2o thank you.. anyhow, better than last year but walked 2 times on big hill and was cautious on down hills (maybe afraid if I pushed it, my legs would crumble from fatigue)
What would you do differently?:

practice hills more.
Post race
Warm down:

Watched others come in a bit - saw first couple of 1/2 iron guys coming in off the bike - wow! flying dismounts with shoes off! ..but then headed home to hit brunch with the family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fatigue and age maybe? ;) Hoping my olympic boosts my enthusiasm in that going long may prove for better times than going short with big speed.

Event comments:

Could not stomach spaghetti and meatballs at 930 am...so munched on fruit for post race. Very 'cramped' at end of race with food, fans, etc... Oh, and speaking of fans -- LOVED the fan club on the trails near campers! Kiddos giving high fives and 'way to go's' to us all! :)

Hi Sarah, well done. I saw from the results on itiming.com that your bike placing is better than the swim, and run is better than bike. That's FANTASTIC, IMPROVING ON EVERY LEG! CONGRATS!!

Good job Sarah!  I looked for you but didn't see anyone resembling your avatar.

Probably because the avatar was photographed just after I farted; and by the time I got to HC, the suit had deflated a bit

Awesome job Sarah! See nothing to worry about. Maybe next time you could wait around for us not-so-fast Half Iron people. Although next year I bet you will be one of the Half Iron people!
