Pre-race routine:

Drove up morning of...was actually a shorter drive then I remember.
Grabbed my chip and #- waited to go potty then went and racked my bike and found some of my buds :)
Event warmup:

Well I did ride my bike from where Iparked to transition. Did a little warm up swim with djdavey. The water was nasty gross- even a tough famr girl like me was grossed out- like I really wanted to put face in that - uck. Well I did- and Im still alive. The water was pretty wavey too.
Swim
  • 38m 20s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well this was probaly the toughest OWS I have done in terms of chop/waves. My goal was under 40 minuted (yeah- Im not too great of a swimmer). OBuys were on the right and I tend to pull a little to the right, so I was pretty much in line staright on most of the time. Was hard to spot with all the oarnge caps and oarnge bouys and waves.. but I did OK. I know I can swim harder then that, but I was way more concerned with not sucking in water when I turned to breathe. When I stood up from the water I looked at my watch and it said 37:00... yahoo. Good start.
What would you do differently?:

Not worry about the greenthings in the water. Swim the way I know I can.
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Ok transition, wasnt really speedy but I didnt screw anything up. Ididnt take time to put a dress on like some people out there ;)
What would you do differently?:

nothing really
Bike
  • 2h 50m
  • 56 miles
  • 19.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Wanted the bike in under 2:50...was pretty close. Did 21.5 miles in the first hour- that was fun- but then we turned into a headwind- ugh. There goes that nice bike split. Was the first time riding my zipps.... honestly- didnt notice much difference- maybe in the downhills. 3 girls passed me in the first 15 miles... plan was to catch them on the run,but I was able to catch them by mile 35- sweet.... two of them had M dot tattoos too. Didnt really see to many girls out there... guess they were all in waves ahead of me.
One downhill I must have shifted to fast or something because my chain was just stcuk- I could pedal at all. I sort of reaked out and then was like "Tam- chill.... what should you do??" So I shifted back into the small ring and it worked, I was good to go.
If I had know I was THAT close to 20 mph I would have pushed harder. This was just a good ride- never was really hard.
Did Ok on nutrition.... 1 bag shot blocks, 1 power gel, 2 20 oz GE, 20 oz water.. .Ok- maybe could have had a little more.... but better then the past.
I had fun out there and I passed a lot of people :)
What would you do differently?:

Not much... sometimes in longer races I kind of zone out, I need to wake up and remember Im racing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Ummm.. not sure why it was so slow- I did put socks on.
What would you do differently?:

go faster
Run
  • 1h 58m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Wanted a sub 2 hour run. I figured to do this I would need to not walk. So I ran up the big hill- which I walked up last year. I felt good running- tryed to just stay comfotable but hard. I wanted to be able to push hard the last few miles.... unfortunately I ran out of power at about mile 11.5 :(
I did try to have fun out there though. Was great seeing poeple I knew. Saw Pete and Josh at the halfway point, Scoobs about mile 6? Then on the second loop I saw Chris and we ran together for about a mile and he was nice enough to share his salttabs with me- THANKS :) Saw Jmwebs the second loop too- right at about the time I was dying. I really saw very few girls out there again- one girl passed me right away and another at the end.
I always go into these things thinking my run is my strong point- but really it hasnt been. I should be running 8:30s- 8:40s.
Did three gels and had water at every aid staition.
What would you do differently?:

??? Maybe push harder. I dont know- but I need to run faster- so I can beat Josh at SOR :))
Post race
Warm down:

Not much..... I thought maybe with that time Id place in my AG- but no. Every OTHER AG I would have but not mine :( Oh well.... 16th overall woman out of 134 (I think) I was pretty happy with the race after but now I look back and it wasnt that great- it was OK. I can do better.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing- I felt pretty good out there.

Event comments:

Fun race. This was my third year at High Cliff and Illprobaly do it again.

Awesome race...rocked the run and were sub 2!

Impressive splits all around. Sadly we can't control who shows up and races and how they trained.  Race results are weird...sometimes I would place way better in younger AG..it is strange.

PBs always rock

You are too funny. You had a great race and all you you can think about is it wasn't good enough!

PS I think the comment about the dress is funny.

Awesome race my friend! Way to PR. I'm sure you will hit a new PR at Racine. If you were dying when I saw you, you didn't show it, I thought you looked great.

Great Race.  Great PR.  And great to know there is room for improvement.  I am expecting you to destroy SOR.  And I also am looking forward to the Lake Town Shake down with the college kid.  Jszat and I are having our own version of the "Lake Town Shake Down", as well.  Should be a blast.

Awesome stuff!

Great job out there.  Sounds like you set a great pace and didn't go over the top.  Looking pretty good for IMMOO.
