Pre-race routine:

Had a bagel/pbutter and a smoothie. Downed gel beforehand.
Event warmup:

Got in that water a bit to pee and see what it's like to swim in total whitecaps.
Swim
  • 24m 51s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

Wow, was this a wind swim. About a 15mph WSW wind. Into the right shoulder on the way out, but a nice coast on the way back. Not sure why, but this swim seemed really easy for the conditions. I didn't draft at all, but felt comfortable the whole way. The lake is so clear you can see the bottom the entire way - water looks about 5 ft deep, but is much deeper.
What would you do differently?:

Not a whole lot. Navigation still needs to improve.
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Went pretty smoothly. Long run from the water to bike.
Bike
  • 1h 11m 19s
  • 24.49 miles
  • 20.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Wish to heck I'd have pushed a bit harder on the bike. It's my best facet so I need to take advantage of that.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Seemed OK. Long run with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Get more fuel/water on the bike. I totally forgot!
Run
  • 47m 51s
  • 6 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Pushed pretty hard, but just didn't have any energy.
Post race
Event comments:

Nice race in a north country venue. Lake is crystal clear and roads are pretty smooth for 'up nort'.

I've only done one other Oly (couple yrs ago) and wedged this one into my IM training so I didn't know exactly what to expect. I gave 'er pretty good and beat my last by 16 minutes.

Wow, 16 minute improvement--nice job! You're the first person I've heard who thought that swim was "easy." LOL I thought it was hideous.
