Would you say doubling your HIM swim time would be close to your IM swim time?? Maybe double it and add 5 minutes??

Anyone want to share how their HIM time compared to their full IM time?

Just curious

Getting worried about IM Moo, huh?

There's a calculator that's out there somewhere, and I have a copy of an IM Moo spreadsheet that someone put together that helps predict an overall time.  PM me and let me know where you want me to send you a copy before I head out to vacation after tomorrow (Thurs. July 31).

I usually go 35-36 min in a HIM (never mind the 40 min my last race) and my two IM swims were 1:20 and 1:18. But I'm not much of a swimmer, I just do my best to be smooth and easy and get from Point A to Point B and use as little energy as possible.

I've been wondering about this also.  I'm just not convinced there is a huge drop off.  I notice that when I swim I actually get faster the longer I go.  I think I get calmed down a little more and then start to concentrate on form.  In last weeks HIM I hit the turn around in 17:35 and hit the beach in under 35:00.  So I guess it qualifies as a negative split.  Plus I would think by the 2nd half you are dealing with a lot less crowds and jostling.  Just my guess, I'm probably way off.

That's sounds very reasonable. Not having done an IM, I wouldn't know for sure, but this makes alot of sense.

Mine were pretty close to even. My IM swim was actually better. (I think the HIM course was mis-marked.) On the first lap I had to share space with all the Idiots who think swimming over me in the rear of the pack will put them in the hunt to win the race. Its very hard to get into a rhythm on the first lap, whereas the 2nd lap I was able to put my head down and swim like I was in the pool.

If I could do my pool time 2.4 mile swim at IM you would have a tough time wiping the grin off my face.

Interesting and I am going to guess you could be in the minority here. My T Time in the pool based on a latest 1000 YD test was 1:35/100yds however at Rhode Island HIM in July which was in rough seas I swum a 32min flat which is 1:31/100yds over a further distance. In a flat lake I am guessing I am going to be around 1.25/100yds. The difference for me is the wetsuit plain and simple I am about 10secs per 100yds faster with it on.

Good luck for Moo see you there!

Last year HIM time: 36min

Last year IM time: 1h 09min

The HIM was a PR time, so imagine my surprise with the IM time!

IM swims of 1:04 and 1:00 (non-wet-suit, wet suit) vs. Half IM swims both in 29:00 (wet suit).

HIM swim time 33:XX.  IM swim time 66:XX.  I'd attribute this to:  better swim fitness going into IM, better drafting with the mass start (wave starts are more chaotic once you get past the first few minutes - imo), and to a lesser degree the IM swim was in salt water

X2 - My 4225 yd swims were within seconds of my IMWI time last year. It's hard to compare times in races. They can vary due to conditions as well as how far transition is in relation to the timing mat. My HIM time last year was 32:00 and my IM MOO time was 53:00, all of my 4225 swims were between 53:00 and 54:00.

Good luck!! It's coming up soon!!

I've done the same HIM three times and each one was a different swim (and resultant different actual distance).  Those were 48, 38 and 41 minutes.  I'd say I would realistically be around 38 or so in ideal conditions on a correctly measured course.

I did a 1:20 in FL and a 1:18 at LP both in ideal conditions.  So just a little over double what I would do in a correctly measured 1/2.

My point was that the HIM course may have been a bit long and the last 200 yds of the swim were walking and jogging and the IMWI swim was perfect conditions and measured correctly. My pool swim times and my IMWI time were both around 53:00.

(I did have a nice set of feet to follow the second half of the swim though. )

Swam a pool time trial of 4225 yards 2 weeks out from IMLP in 1:02:55 and finished IMLP in 1:07:10. Was hoping to go under 1:05 but with all the people and having to stop and start so many times due to congestion it did not happen.
