Comments: Great Ride. The new approach and finish portions of the ride added some difficulty over the previous years routes. This was the key training session for me in preparartion for B2B and I must say I couldn't be happier with the results. I no problems on any of the climbs and only slight discomfort from my saddle. The first three climbs went by quickly as I was averaging 75-80 rpm on the climbs while keeping my HR in low Z3. Once I reached Hogpen I slowed my cadence way down opting just to keep the wheels turning. Passed lots of people walking their bikes. I also passed Mr Archon who was doubled over and actually spewing....heh...heh... probably sick of seeing all the inferior bikes passing him..heh..heh... Felt pretty confident on the back side and reached 42 mph on the downhill. Wolfpen and Woodys went by in a flash! I also opted to ride the ride solo staying out of pacelines and drafts (except at the start). What would you do differently?: I realize I probably could have pushed the pace significantly and gone faster but one of my goals was to test my B2B nutrition plan, and pacing by HR. It was spot on except when I grabbed a banana while passing one of the aid stations which gave me a little trouble for a few minutes, and a small handfull of pretzls which also gave me some problems for a short while. So I'm sold on perpetuem. I also tried a baked potato at the run transition. It was awesome Thanks Ilana Katz! Post race
Warm down: Stowed my bike, changed into running shoes, grabbed my hydration belt and began my transition run. My original plan was to do 10 miles but I cut the run to 6 miles (1 hr) due to the unexpected extreme afternoon temperatures and very little shade on my run route. I have no doubt I could have finished the distance but at this point in my training I cant afford any mishaps. Especially heat related. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing Event comments: Great day training! Congrats to NASMCrs Brian, Neal and Lou for also doing 6 Gap Last updated: 2008-09-14 12:00 AM

Woke at 4:30. Ate 2 Bagels, skim milk, and Coffee. Left the house at 6:00 to beat the traffic. Drank a glass of heed on the way.
Stretched slightly, conducted last minute checks on the bake and made several laps around the parking lot to make sure. Briefly chatted (sorta) with a dude parked near me with a new Litespeed Archon. After me making a couple of compliments on his ride he began to explain to me how his Litespeed was so much better than mine (duh) and how if all things being equal, he should be able to outride everybody due to his superior bike...blah...blah...blah.. and how he would do the Gaps in 6 hours...blah...blah.... Dude probably should have put more effort into the engine as that would be pretty apparent later.....
Linked up with Lou, Neal, and Brian for a pre-ride pic.
