Even though I am not racing, I too swam to just about the bridge and back...felt so nice...didn't notice any real sign of any current?? So nice to swim in water so warm and not be all bunged up in a wetsuit!!!   Good luck out there kids!!

Well, take this advice for what it's worth.  #1 - There's ALWAYS a current in the river.  that said, the NOAA website states the velocity is currently between .5 and 1.0 mph.  Translated, that's between 3.5 and 6.5 minutes per 100 yards (if I'm doing my math correctly).

So, it may already be obvious, but in a river swim:

When swimming upstream stay as shallow as reasonably possible (generally that means closer to shore).

When swimming downstream stay as close to the middle (or deep channel) as possible.

Of course, I have no idea where the bouys are placed.

Good luck everyone - see you at the swim start bright and early on Sunday!

Sorry, I should have been more specific, yes, there is always going to be some current since it's a river, I just meant, and a bunch of others agreed, it wasn't very strong this morning.

I will leave the comments from here on out to the athletes....go BT!!

I didn't really feel much of a current this morning, but my watch sure did!  Took about 15:00 to get to the last buoy(includes a fewpauses to look around) and I was out of the water and standing there before I hit stop on the watch @ 25:xx...so about 5:00 faster back in!  That's gonna be great if the current stays like it is..

timdude - 2009-08-27 7:19 PM Well I worked the checkin today was able to meet few BTers, tnickerson, king03, jungle jenn, and abbier. The biggest question of the day was water temp. and wetsuits. I believe the IM folks will make that call on Friday. Talking to Jennifer about how IM is cheaping out on some of the items this year, when I got home I looked at my volunteer shirt 100% cotton, the last two years the shirts were better wicking type shirts. IM is kind of tightening their purse strings a little. Anyway I did snap a pic of Abbie I hope I didn't creep her out to bad. If anybody wants to do a quick ride tomorrow, I could lead one out for you folks while the kids are in school, something flat and easy if its not raining, let me know.

She's a little off center but that's normal for Abbie!

I worked athlete check in this afternoon.  I was taking your medical waivers.  Met a couple of folks.  Will be bike catching on Sunday, and then doing chip retrieval at the finish line.  Will be wearing a black adidas visor.  Best of luck to everyone racing!!!!!  Its so cool to see downtown full of triathletes, and I have some serious bike envy going on :-)

I was hoping to meet more of the BT'ers last night at the Carbo dinner, but we got in early, and were totally on the other side.  By the time I got done, Mike Reilly was talking and then we took off a little into the race talk, so no such luck.

I wish you all a FANTASTIC race tomorrow...be safe out there...have fun...and I'll be wearing my yellow BT Louisville shirt, with my black racing skirt (have to look good for you guys) so you shouldn't miss me!

Hi.
Thanks everyone for the wealth of great information about the race.  I assume no wetsuit, but does anyone know for sure?

Good luck to all of you!

I mentioned this in a different thread, but did anyone have a stick thrown at them.  There were some kids on the 42 side of the loop just throwing sticks a racers.
