Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4, raining pretty steady. Ate Cliff bar, drank coffee, showered, shaved. Met TNT group in hotel lobby, then drove to Superdome. Met Lane (Cavu9) on ramp, then met other Lafayette friends. Porta potti, Porta potti, Porta potti.
Event warmup:

Not much more than walking around. rain pretty much quit prior to start.

  • 09m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Longest run since before Thanksgiving due to injury (Achilles), as a result I ran very conservatively, this is my slowest half marathon by ten minutes. Particularly slow on the overpasses (Miles 5 and 9), blame that on the extra 15 pounds I'm still carrying. Still, My goal was a 10-minute pace, and to run the whole thing, so I succeeded on both accounts.
What would you do differently?:

Train, lose weight.
Post race
Warm down:

Warmed down with some red beans and rice, king cake, chee weez and Subway sandwiches. Have to support those sponsors ;)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of quality training, still too heavy.

Event comments:

Could use more water stations early in the course, only every two miles on the first half. Stations were very congested as a result.

Slow, congested start, obvious where the overpasses are, but everything else pretty consistent, can see that I picked it up after the second overpass, as I became more confident that I would be able to cover the distance

Great race for coming off an injury.  I hope the achilles feels good today.  That sounds like a fun race.

way to go Bear.....specially on an injury.....sorry I didn't have time to say hello I had some rather confused and tardy room mates with me. I had a fantastic race so I'm just floating on air.

Nice race, especially since you're coming off an injury. Better to run a bit conservatively, than go crazy and risk re-injury. Great job!

Great race John! AT injuries stink, so I can commiserate. Glad to see you were able to meet both goals regardless. Heck of a way to come out of "hibernation" and start off the season.

Nice race, bear. I'd take that finish post-injury (I know how it feels)
