Alcatraz lottery (Page 4)

We're sorry.  Maybe someone should start a race thread?

I would have but the race wasn't even in the database yet and I didn't want to screw up putting it in.

But I probably wouldn't add it to my calendar until I actually hit the "submit" button registration anyway.

Has anyone bit the bullet and coughed up the $400 yet?  I am going to wait about 10 days for my credit card to close out first.  Put off the expense as long as possible!

For me this race qualifies as a "be careful what you wish for" situation....

I got in and now I have to figure out how to get my bike, myself and my wife across the country, housed for a week, fed for a week all on a budget that would say I'm better off watching it on TV......

And reading all the comments on sharks, zooming brown 2 ton walruses below me on the swinm, now I'm totally freaking out.....

I've visited Alcatraz Island before so this is really going to be literally a once in a lifetime experience......

I have been throwing my name in the lottery for 3 years now to no avail. I finally get into the race and I can't do it because of Eagleman 70.3. Darn!!

Guess I'll try again next year!

There is still a second drawing!  1 Feb I think?

You need to leave in a fairly large city (or near a fairly large city) to use tri-bike transport.

I'll probably just suck it up and take mine on the airplane with me.

One of the cool things about this race for me....

Escape from Alcatraz was the first triathlon I EVER saw on TV.  I was actually in Pueblo, CO in the middle of a cross country flight while getting my private pilot's license in 2001.  While they were fueling my little Katana in Pueblo I went to the airport restaurant which had really good pie.  I sat there eating my pie and on the TV was coverage of the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.  I remember watching it completely fascinated.  I didn't even do triathlons then!

And now I'm gonna DO it.   Sweet!

Just checked - no luck for me.

I did the race last  year and actually rented a road bike out there.  It was a ton cheaper than using TriBike to ship mine from Chicago or to put it on a plane with me.  Since it was only 18 miles of riding and I wasn't planning on winning anything in my age group I figured it was cheaper and easier to rent.  

I picked it up the day before the race and set it up to my fitting, did a quick test ride and was good to go.  I brought my own pedals and shoes, but other than that it was all rental.  I probably could have gone about 5 minutes faster with my own bike, but it saved a ton of hassle and money.  If anybody wants details on where I rented from shoot me a PM.

Don't worry about that. This is being put forth by a bunch of subversives hoping for a second chance in the February lottery by scaring off the successful lottery winners.  :-)

 However,  I do think there is an element of being careful of what you hope for as for the $ involved.

Okay, okay.  I just submitted the form to get the race added to the race directory.  So, nobody else do that or we'll end up with duplicates and cause Ron and Marma lots of problems.

Should be there soon I imagine so we can start a race thread once it's there.

I found one in there already....

I added it to my races, but they had no "race talk" link.... 

Maybe marma could add it, or creat a whole new race?  I'll wait and see.

When did you find it?  Because I searched twice in California in June 09 and didn't see an Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon either time.

Then when I went to add it, it found no matches and told me to create a new one.

You can link through Aikidoman's blog now but for the life of me I cannot make the Race Directory search thing find that race he has in there (which BTW, looks like the one I added to the calendar a little bit ago).

I found a discrepancy in BT.  Maybe give Marma a heads up.  If you do searches, you don't find many of the races.

HOWEVER, if you go to YOUR races on the race page, and select ADD RACE, put in the date, city, all that jazz, it comes up.

Go figure..

I found it, obviously.  Just no "start thread" choice for that one.

Weird.  I wonder if the one there is the one I tried to add?  Because it IS still in the holding tank...which is where my added race would sit until it's approved.

Maybe it doesn't get a "Start a Race Talk" until it's out of the Holding Pen?
