Serious Question:  Is there a bike maintenance tent down there?  My derailleur has been jumping around a bit since I put the Zipp disc on.  I played with it a little and it's better but it's still not 100% and I'm thinking after having the bike on the back of my car for six hours, I'm thinking the derailleur may need some adjusting.

Last year just before we went into Sailwinds before packet pickup, there were bike maintenance folks there who checked out our bikes if you wanted. The bike check isn't mandatory like at Columbia, but never hurts to get a look over. They should be able to help you out if they're there this year. I'd be surprised if they weren't.

dodgersmom: I think the NBC graphic forecast is pretty off as far as temps go. The other two look more in line with the official forecast for the area.

I agree.  The NBC is from the Salisbury station so that probably is the difference.  Not on the water.  I am liking the detailed forecast, especially those wind predictions.  If that hold true, it is going to be fast race

Does anyone have any ideas for getting a hotel now???? i am thinking about purchasing a community slot BUT I can't find a hotel and I really don't do the camping thing, especially the night before my first half iron.

thanks,
lesley

I'm looking around for something closer and saw there are some rooms in Salisbury, St Michaels, and Seaford. That's 30-40 min away which makes for an early wakeup on Sunday, but at least you're not doing the camping thing. Hope you can join all of us!

In answer to the "when are people showing up" question... We'll be arriving early to mid-afternoon on Saturday. Hoping we have time for a quick swim in the Choptank. We're staying in Easton, and will probably get dinner somewhere fairly near our hotel. Anyone have any suggestions to try and facilitate a BT meet-up??

Good luck to you all! I've had to scratch this race as I've been deployed for a while. Came up sudenly as things around the world are in crapshoots lately, and will be back in town at the end of the month.

Very disapointed as this was my A race and all my training was going to well this year.

Oh well, another entry fee busted thanks to uncle sam, but then i love my job. Cheers!!

Unless they've changed something, it has been every year I've done it (the last 3 years).  This year at Columbia it was the first time they've NOT required a bike check.

i actually ended up getting a room in easton around christmas time but called the local hotels last week and got the holiday inn express right in cambridge but it is a smoking room. Oh well, I would rather be close and not have to get up even earlier! I can deal with the smell. I keep calling the hyatt but no luck there.

hope to see you all there.

Are you pulling the NBC weather from this URL?

http://www.nbc15online.com/weather/default.aspx

That looks like Alabama/Florida, but seems to sync up (and look like) with the forecasts you've been posting.  I don't think Salisbury Maryland is that much different than Cambridge, and I don't remember a NBC 15 in Salisbury.  Seems like I'm always watching DC and Baltimore stations when I am in Salisbury.

Every single triathlete in the area will be trying to cross that bridge and get into Cambridge.  On one main route.  So leave as early as you can.

That is why the people like me coming from the other direction just cruise right in the back roads and get right into parking with no problem.

Usually with all the rain the sea nettles would not be around.  Interesting .......

Is it bad enough to consider taking rt 331 out of Easton and come into Cambridge the back way?

Heading home over the bay bridge doesn't sound very fun.  We have normal Ocean City traffic, plus the Chesapeake Bay Swim is from 1130-3:15 (why do I have to choose between these two great races every year?!), plus there is a century ride in Chestertown.  So lots to crowd up the bridge.  But at least then we'll be basking the glory of a job well done. :-)

Did I miss any talk about food options for Saturday night?  I'm all about the food. :-)  Preferably something subdued and not too pricey.  Even an IHOP is ok.  I see a Ruby Tuesday's in Easton, as well as a diner and Pizza Hut.

Either that, or the Ki Thai place in Easton.. thai would be good for race day, right? ;-)

I stayed in Easton last year- no problems getting over the bridge, only traffic was in Cambridge itself (parking situation makes it more difficult again this year).  I've never headed north after the race, only east, but I've heard the traffic sucks going north after the race, especially with the beach traffic.

Yeah Im starting to realize how much of a crappy ride this might be going back on Sunday.  Ahh well.

What are everyones start times?  I was trying to print out a little list so I could get rough estimates of when you'd be out of the water/off the bike/out on the run, etc.

Due to my work schedule I will be arriving in the area this evening(thursday), staying at the Hampton in Seaford.

I will probably try to get into the water both Friday and Saturday.  I need all the open water time I can get.  The jelly fish report may have made my decision regarding full wetsuit or sleeveless.

I'm looking forward to the opportunity to meet some of the other BTers.
