Subject: Anyone use Sports Tracks for the Garmin?

I got tired of the Garmin 305 software, so i decided to give the Sports Track software a try.

However, i've ran into an issue with the program not working.   I uninstalled the Garmin software and now when i try to run Sports Track, it says the Garmin 305 is not recognized.

Anyone use this program and have any issues like this?

I use SportTracks since I own my 305 and it works like a charm. Never heard of anyone having any issues with it and a Garmin.

Did you make sure you had the latest version?

I've used it since day one, got both the garmin software and the sports track stuff on there. Maybe there's a USB driver with the garmin software that you need. Dunno.

I'm not sure if it is the same problem, but I just installed sport tracks and the 2nd time I used it I had to reload the software from the Garmin disk - then it could synch with the watch..  Seems like the sport tracks software made a change to the Garmin files.

I use both my forerunner and edge with sports tracks.  My first thought is that you need to (re)install the garmin communicator software.  Get it from the garmin website.

It's possible that uninstalling TC removed Garmin Communicator as well.

Ditto to what everyone said about the Garmin drives.  I use SportsTracks almost exclusively.  There's an active forum on their website for troubleshooting, and you may get more technical advise there.

Good luck!

Try motionbased.com instead... I think it is better than Sport Tracks, especially if using the HR monitor.  Also FREE!

I use Sporttracks as well - it is fantastic software and blows Garmin Training Centre out of the water.  Check out all the plugins available for it as well, they really enhance the functionality of the program.  I've even written one to generate power statistics based on published bike trainer power curves (not  available yet on their web site, but I'll get there).

As others have suggested you do need the driver that comes with Garmin Training Centre software to communicate between the Garmin and Sporttracks.

well i've honestly about had it with this Garmin and it not connecting to my system.   i've downloaded and tried everything that i know and nothing works.

and this is not the first time i've had trouble with my computer recognizing the device.   i'm constantly having to either reboot, change usb ports, or some other crap just to get my workouts uploaded.

i'm just about resolved to the face i just won't be able to upload my stats and i'll just have to write them down i guess.   i'm pissed and tired of trying everything i know.

thanks for all the advice and tips.....but nothing works

Here are few things that I had to do.  Maybe they will help you.

- Download updated usb drivers from your computer manufacturers website.  I had a ton of problems with my usb ports (wouldn't recognize, wouldn't charge, etc) until I got those updated drivers

- Download the Garmin driver from this very website.  When I first used SportTracks, it told me it wouldn't recognize the Garmin.  BT has a driver so I downloaded it and it worked.

Hope you get some resolution.  I adore my Garmin and am considering the footpod and cadence because it would make logging stuff that much easier.

ya i tried the USB drivers but when it says to connect the Garmin, it won't recognize it.   guess i'll try to dl the drivers from here.   can someone point me to the drivers on this site?

now it won't even charge or anything from the USB cradle.   i'm wondering if it might be an issue with the cradle.   anyone know if that might be a issue or how good Garmin's customer service is?

i'm pretty ticked that i'm ready to go for a run but it didn't charge from the last few uses and it's nearly dead and won't recharge.

Garmin has absolutely top notch customer service!!

Your issue now sounds like a problem with the garmin itself- and not sportstrack or your USB port. It sounds like you might have fried your connection on the garmin- those little gold plates on the bottom of the unit. This happened to my first Garmin, and luckily I caught it while it was still under warranty. I called garmin, they had me send it to them, and they sent me a brand new unit within a week. It was awesome. My new unit has absolutely no problem at all connecting to the computer.

If your unit is out of warranty, be very nice to the customer service. If they don't give you a new one write away, try writing to the company as well. I have had very goodluck every time I contact them, just be nice

Really? You actually like Motionbased over Sportstrack? I found nothing great about motionbased, especially with the limited free subscription. Sportstrack is also FREE- they just ask for a donation, and since I am so in love with their program, I don't mind giving it!

With motionbased, you have to upload everything to the web, and they only allow you to look at your most recent entries (or at least that's how it was when I was using motionbased). I found the interface to be ugly and counterintuitive, and the connection was extremely slow. I like sportstrack because it's software, so I can save everything on my computer, and then I use BT as my online log. The interface is also really neat and fun, and the features are absolutely amazing! Anyways, I'm obviously biased, but I highly recommend giving sportstrack another shot
