Based on what I recall from tracking the progress of a couple BTers on the waiting list last year, you have an excellent chance. Just my opinion, but if I were in your shoes, I'd definitely go forward on the assumption that you'll get in.

It's a real good race.

It's also a real big race that people have to commit to a long ways in advance so there's always a lot of dropouts to be replaced.

Things are going well.  I am on track for a healthy vineman!   I need this race for a qualifer for the Ironman Hawaii.

My swimming is behind last year--but that is by design of the plan I'm on.  The bike is much stronger--and I've gotten a few quality long distance rides in so far.   The run is about the same as last year--except I'm still healthy!

I'm in a really good place...I actually started base building as far back as November so that I could shift to a run focus over late March-April for LA Marathon on Memorial Day (with the intention of hitting the bike and swim hard in late May-June).

Before starting taper for Wildflower (next weekend), I got to:  2.25 mile continuous swim, 80 mile ride, 20 mile run.  I'll do a 90 mile ride in May, then the marathon on 5/25, then get up over 100 miles on the bike (and start OWS sessions) in June.

I posted this in last year's race thread as well as in the this year's full vineman thread.

Course overview from when I rode it last year (that's poweredbyfear (in blue) and DW in the pictures).

We didn't do the tail section at the start from Guerneville (T1) to Westside, so here's a picture of what you'll see on Westside

These are along Dry Creek

The small climb up Canyon

After the downhill, the turn into Geyserville

Along 128

On Chalk Hill Rd.

Faught or Shiloh Rd.

Old Redwood Highway

At the end of the course, you'll roll up to Windsor High School.   You'll enter on the south end so you won't pass the school as shown below, but you will if you do the full vineman.

And on the full vineman course, you'll also go through this section to reconnect the loop

I'm in an excellent place. I did a run heavy winter and it is really showing. Last year I had about every foot/shin problem known to man, so I am looking forward to strong runs this year.

Those pictures are great.  I am doing FL 70.3 in 3 weeks, my first.  This will be my second.  I think I am more excited for this one than FL.  I hope to survive the first one and enjoy the second.

riding the course with a bunch of folks from my tri club tomorrow, so there should be riders of all abilities.  If you're interested, we're meeting at Windsor high school at 9:15ish and/or you can PM to coordinate meet up.

Great photos of the course! Wish I could get up there and ride it before the race but that isn't going to happen.
Hope everyone's training is going well. Mine has been a little up and down lately but I'm getting back on track.

Thanks for the photos.  I was trying to get up and ride the course this weekend, but it didn't happen.  I am going to try next weekend if anyone is interested...
Question, this is my first time doing Vineman...I am trying to plan my nutrition for the race, what is provided at the aid stations.   Anyone have suggestions regarding nutrition
Also, what are anyone's thoughts regarding wetsuit for the swim.  I know the river is supposed for me mid 70's but the swim starts around 7am...

Couple of thoughts.

1.  I would check the motionbased site for vineman courses profiles.

2.  The ride has two hills of significance.  However, either are that bad.  The evil "chalk hill" really isn't that bad. However, it is late in the ride.

3. There are tons of rolling hills.

4.  There are sections that the pavement is rough.  Not as bad as Treasure Island, but better than Wildflower.

I found the run to be more difficult. There are four hills on the course.  Hill two has a "false summit" that is hidden by a curve.  However, the third hill is the toughest.   My quads cramped up during that hill.   There are at least four water stops on the course and La Creme (which I'm drinking now... :-)   ) winery is a great turn around point with water misters.   The course can be really hot and the heat radiating from the streets can be intense.

Also, I would recommend checking out prior year race reports for more detail. It one of the best resources available from BT!

I did 80 on the course on Saturday and the a two mile brick.

I agree with the previous post - bike isn't bad - mostly rolling as I recall, couple of hills - just pace yourself up Chalk Hill, don't panic and remember to be in the right gear! Otherwise the bike is fun.

Run is quite difficult - there are hills but again relax, pace yourself and as I recall in previous years (2005, 2006) the aid stations had gatorade, water, some ice, coca cola, pretzels and fruit - oh and I think cookies. Again though check the website to see if that is what is still going to be carried on the course.

Swim - both times I have done the swim I used a wetsuit - didn't really need it as such but since the race does start early and it is cold while you just tread water at the start I think I would still wear the wetsuit.

Just as a caveat though - my goal is to finish (and preferably beat my 2006 time of 6 hrs 18 mins - so my advice is offered on that basis!)

Good racing,
Suzie

Rode the course last weekend with a buddy who is racing as well (although he is not on BT).  It is a fantastic course...Defenitly glad I rode before the race.  Canyon is a sneakly little climb, in fact while we were riding I thought my rear brake was dragging and something was wrong with my bike, Andy had to convince me it was a false flat, the downhill following the "climb" was nice to relax before getting onto 128.  Chalk Hill climb was interesting.  We were both not sure when it was going to start and it is not THAT bad...just come late in the ride.  Going to have to figure out when to push and when to relax to save energy for the run.
Any one have suggestions for racing following a LONG plane ride.  I will be in Serbia for 15 days right before the race.  I get back home in the bay area on the 13th and will try and shake my legs out before the race.  I will be able to run and swim in Serbia, but not able to bike.  I had this built into my plan, but we will see how it goes.
Best of luck to everyone, especially those racing Alcatraz this weekend

Has anyone done the Vineman and the Longhorn in Austin, TX? I did the Longhorn in October, and I was just wondering if anybody out there has done both and could tell me how they compare. I've never been to northern CA, and I'm really looking forward to it. It looks beautiful up there! I just hope the run on this course isn't as hilly as the Longhorn was. Ouch!

Less than a month to go.  Any other east coasters making the trip out?  How are you shipping your bike?  I am bummed that TriBikeTransport is not making the cross country trip.

I have not done the Longhorn. However, here is most of the run from last year.

Another question.....

Does anyone know if there will be wetsuit strippers? Taking off that wetsuit is such a pain in the a$$!!

There was no stripper last year.   That's a sentence I never thought I would say in this forum.
