Anyone racing in the Nation's Triathlon in DC this September. Who's raced it in the past, any comments.

I haven't raced it, but it's on my list when I move up to Olympic distance next year.  It seems like a great venue - even if you do have to swim in the Potomac.  Sealed

I'll be doing Nation's this year. I did it a couple years ago, and I thought it was a lot of fun. Logistics are a bit of a PITA, but still a really fun race. You can see a list of BT'ers who are signed up and have put the race on their race calendars here:

There have been a few discussions about the Nations Tri in the Virginia forums.

Yes, I'm doing it thanks to Gu Sports (sponsored slot).  I'm looking forward to it since it is fairly local.  But I would not have done it if it wasn't for the opportunity through Gu ....... it is just too expensive for an Oly. for my tastes.

Plus I am racing the weekend before, possibly the week after and two marathons the month after that.  I'm going to be one tired puppy come November!

Grew up in DC, now live in MN.  Can't imagine swimming in the Potomac, but at some point I will go back to DC just to do this race.

x2. It's expensive for an Oly, even though it's in the backyard, AND it's in the Potomac, which I KNOW everyone says is safe to swim in, but I still wouldn't. They've had to cancel the swim on more than one occasion because of unsafe bacteria levels. That's enough right there for me to choose something else. I will probably go down to Williamsburg and do Patriots.

They've canceled the swim at Patriot's for the same reason.

I did the swim in a relay (with Tony) last year.  I didn't think the swim was that bad.  Overall, it was a pretty fun event and I enjoyed it.

I did it last year and signed up again. It was a great race but they had some logistic problems with the start line being far from the finish. They also ran out of TP! According to the web site the run course has been changed so the finish is closer to the transition and they have added portapotties (hopefully TP). They have also reduced the large number of 180 turns. I loved the swim and bike course. Lots of views of our historic monuments and sites. The first 4 miles of the run were boring with few specators before heading into the downtown streets. The temperature was in the mid 90's but I think that was unusual for September. My wave started at 8:30 so by the time I finished it was nasty.

I think it was 165 this year.  Similar price to last year.
