Sunny
Total Time = 1h 18m 40s
Overall Rank = 29/240
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 4/20
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 430am, had coffee ready and waiting. Ate a bagel, had two huge travel cups of coffee. Packed up the car, I was ready to go at 530am. Hit up the bathroom, wokeup my daughter got her ready.

I tried to wake her up, and she was slow to move, told her it was time to go to the race, her eyes opened and she jumped out of bed.
Event warmup:

Setup transition with my daughter, walked around semi-nervously waiting on her Aunt to show up to watch her. Had about 10min to go. Swam a bit, chatted in the water. Listened to a weird version of America the Beautiful.
Swim
  • 16m 30s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

I seeded myself to conservatively. I treaded water twice because I got stuck. I tried to get in between other swimmers when there was room. Eventually after the first buoy I went way wide and was able to swim. I did swim some extra, but that was okay.
What would you do differently?:

Seed more towards the front, trust my swim ability more. I lost a bit of time here.
Transition 1
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

Pretty fast, suit came off quick, got helmet and glasses on easy. Walked part of my bike aisle, outside of that, I was pretty fast.

21st in T1. 1st was 10s faster.
What would you do differently?:

Speed up the short part I walked. Probably lost 5s.
Bike
  • 39m 38s
  • 14.4 miles
  • 21.80 mile/hr
Comments:

Really good bike for me. Some kid who either won and placed top 3 in the AG below me, drafted behind me much of the race. I got caught up in a pack with about 1mile to go. No where to go. There was a bit of other drafting going on, there was a pack of three that flew past me. Outside of the drafting I watched, it was a great race for me.

Took a few sips of water, two sips of gatorade, one hit of CarbBOOM!

This was my 3rd outdoor ride of the year.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing? Maybe use my CarbBOOM! a 2nd time. I took one small hit towards the start of the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Pretty fast. Everything went pretty perfect. 42nd, not sure if this could have been much faster.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing?
Run
  • 20m 30s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

One drink on the way back in. Gel bounced out of jersey right as I left T2. Pretty good run. I think I got passed twice. This was the first time I ran sockless in my Brooks T6, did not tighten the right shoe enough and it chafed my achilles tendon a bit. I did not notice until the race was over. Great shoes for the distance, quick on.
What would you do differently?:

Possibly pushed a bit harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Went over to my daughter, got some water and sat down cheering others on. Eventually went and hosed off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor swim seeding.

Event comments:

Really not too much improvement, aside from better roads. I nailed one pot-hole hard. I thought I was going to flat. Guy behind me (not the drafter) said I nailed that hard, and asked if the bike was ok.

Post race food was great. I do not really ever eat anything. I had 1 piece of watermelon, my daughter had two or three.

Great job Aaron!  It was great to meet you and your daughter.  She is adorable!  I thought the swim was long too.  Some of those roads were rough.  I saw 2 people flat and was surprised there weren't more.  Again, nice race!

Nice race Aaron!  I knew that was you right with me coming into T1 and then you flew through T1 and I never saw you again!  Nice bike and race overall!

I noticed some drafting too on the bike, I was probably about a minute behind you and you had a nice run...really good overall.

I got caught up in that swim too right with you.  I felt like there was no where to go for alot of it...

Good luck in RI!!!

Nice race man.  Aren't you going to mention missing 3rd in your AG??  Am I the only one who whines about stuff like that?

Regardless, solid race.  Nice confidence builder a month before R.I.

I thought I recognized you but I wasn't sure so I stayed away. Great race! I hit one pot hole and thought it was all over for me! For me the swim was crazy..I couldn't get into a rhythm until after the first turn. Hope to meet you at a different race!
