Lake Mills Triathlon
55F / 13C
Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 15m 19s
Overall Rank = 60/595
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 90/56
Pre-race routine:

wake up from my slumber, get the shtuff together and head on out. quick stop and speedway to get gas and lunatick (she followed me out, that way she wouldnt take a wrong turn...........again........). get to venue, park, rack shark bait, check in, move shark bait, find donkai
Event warmup:

jogged up to the van to put some stuff back in, also used the facilities up there as they are cleaner and no line!!
Swim
  • 09m 28s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 09s / 100 yards
Comments:

thought this swim went lots better than last year, but was slower. as i was ont he back stretch someone grabbed my ankle (last year this wouldve caused me to stop!), i wriggled free, continued on only to have someone (same person?) grab my ankle again.........grrrrrrrr......wriggle free, continue on, felt yet another hand clasp around my ankle again but this time i rolled onto my left side and kicked with my right leg, CONTACT!!! plus, no more ankle grabbing!!
What would you do differently?:

not too much, havent had a pool to swim in this year so far so swims have been minimal. plus i was only about 20 seconds slower than last year and last year i didnt have the ankle grabber behind me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

T1......ugh.........so i get into the area, find my bike without a hitch only to find shark bait hanging onto the bar by his left break lever....all the time i spent organizing my area is caput as someone totally destroyed all of my hard work!! (ok, maybe 3 mins worth.....but still........) so, i feel this was a good T1 since i had to locate all of my crap again. while getting everything set again i decided not to worry about the arm warmers and just gettagoing...........so that saved time. faster than last year by almost 20 seconds!
What would you do differently?:

set up a hidden camera and catch who ever messed up my stuff.......probably nashers i suspect........
Bike
  • 43m 40s
  • 15.8 miles
  • 21.71 mile/hr
Comments:

not a bad ride, switched up some stuff on shark bait on saturday night. raised the handle bars a bit and also moved the seat up and tilted up a bit. that seemed to help out a lot, especially with the quad issue. felt comfortable on the ride. only two people passed me and ironically they both had those sweet orange treck tri bikes!!! me likey!!!
What would you do differently?:

not too much, think i might go some type of disc wheel for the next race........
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

thought this felt faster but i'll take it. still faster than last year
What would you do differently?:

not a heckuvalot to be honest
Run
  • 18m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

felt really smooth on this run, felt like i was pushing it, think i couldve pushed more. was worried about the quad but that felt good, was a little achey afterwords (that little downhill at the end hurt....)but quad held up fine. nobody passed me on this run.
What would you do differently?:

push harder. i am really feeling confident in the run off of the bike now.
Post race
Warm down:

shivered and shook and cheered on the donkai! (also ate me a slice of rocky rococco's pizza!! thanks fishlips!! you rawk!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

was worred about the quad......think i couldve gone faster, but not sure how much.......

Event comments:

not a bad race for me considering the quad issue and that i signed up on thursday evening. also because of those things, i went in without any preconcieved notions on how i would do, just to go out and test the quad kinda thing.

was superduper coolio to see so many donkai in attendance (scooby, jmwebs, donkeywolf, lunatick, fishlips, judyjetson, craimyjo, wavedog, schmizey (two hearts pal, two hearts!), talltridad, bunnyT, casserole, jenndoc, vanillwafer, waferspouse, deanna, tacobellgrande, donnawiz, lord helmet...man, im sure im forgetting someone, im sorry if i am, there be just so many of us now!!!!)

the DTFU'd award goes to...........man, so many to chose from on a day like that. anyone who participated gets a nod due to the conditions......but lets see, theres casserole competing with a hole in his tummy, nashers hyperventitation techniques in the water but gittin' it done........man...prime candidates there....i think i am going with ...... all the ones that came out and strapped. firstnet, judyjetson and fishlips...tuff to be out there cheering on and being all positive in those conditions!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Remind me to never get seated behind you on the swim.

Were you hoping for a sub-6 per mile on this race, or just controlling it due to the conditions?

Good seeing ya on me anniversary.  Way to get it done and I'm glad the bike fit is better, will pay off in a short 3 months or so, if you know what I mean.

I'm sorry. I paid that guy to grab your ankles and mess up your transition. It's all about testing the mettle of the US Donkus, but sadly I now have his lawyers chasing me down as he wasn't happy about being donkey kicked. I dunno.
