Subject: anyone else have the rare "oversupinated" foot?
Studies show that most people who struggle with arch problems typically have overpronation of the foot, meaning that their arch essentially droops and their feet tend to roll in.  However, another condition, oversupination, is the exact opposite: due to a high arch, one's foot tends to roll out, causing the outer part of their foot to bear the majority of the load.

Lots of shoes are made for overpronators, but there is a much smaller market for oversupinators.  My question is, what do you oversupinators run in?

I run in a neutral shoe, or a very very mild stability shoe. Currently, that is Asics Speedstars, Asics DS Trainers, and the Asics Trail Attack 5.

I have the same problem, the best shoe I've found is the Brooks Defyance.  It's a neutral cushioned shoe.

I train in Nike Air Pegasus and they work good for me. I race in various flats, currently Adidas AdiZero Mana for longer races and AdiZero Pro for shorter. A running coach told me to stay away from any kind of stability shoe.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.  I have an older model of the Asics Landreth's, which has a similar profile to the Cumulus, but it still isn't enough for me....

Any other shoe brands give pronation ratings like Asics does?

Generally speaking, if you're an under-pronator, you want a show with as little support as possible. When your arch doesn't collapse under weight, you lose a lot of the natural shock absorption feet that pronate normally provide. Therefore, you want to don't want to discourage any flexing of the arch that might occur. Also, you want more cushioning, since you're relying more on your show to do what your foot is supposed to be doing.

So...long story short...cushioned neutral shoes are what to look for--and progressively more cushioning the heavier you are.

i've also run in nike air pegasus for the past 3 pairs. it works really well for me.

i also use inserts from the walking store. i had my foot analyzed there and they recommended the sport inserts (the red ones) and they feel great.

I run mostly in Saucony ProGrid Triumphs.  I recently picked up some Grid Sinisters that I'm going to do shorter races in.  Over the weekend I tried on some Nike Luna Trainers on.  They felt very promising, just not a big Nike fan.

Amen to this.  Defyance made running fun again. I wish I didn't run on the outside of my feet, it's hard to break. It seems to start at the hips.

My feet go way tot he outside edge.  I have Asics Gel Landreth but am about to go shopping and would like to find something new to try.  I'll have to write some of these ideas down to bring to the store.

Always been a lifter, as I played contact sports in high school and am just starting to really get my endurance up again.  Thus, I don't keep detailed cardio logs.   In my prime, about 2 years ago, I was running approximately 5 miles daily (nothing close to most of you guys, I know).

I've never had injuries other than osgood schlotter in my youth and occasional shin splint flare ups when I've trained too much and recovered too little.  However, my ankles rotate heavily to the outside, and running on trails with some of my current shoes often pushes my ankles' limits, as they feel like they could roll quite easily.

I'm looking for a shoe to increase my stability; something that will neutralize my supination.  I don't think a "neutral" cushioning shoe alone works...

I supinate and use Mizuno neutral cushioning shoes.
Creations - High cushioning
Riders - Mild Cushioning
Precisions - Neutral Performance

I originally planned to use the precisions for shorter runs and track workouts, the creations for very long runs and the Riders for everything in between.  But have really started to love running in the precisions and even used them in my recent HIM.  Not that I'd recommend it, but I'd do it again, but I'm a gluttun for punishment in races.

Asics Nimbus - good stuff, feels like running on clouds.
Mizuno Waveriders - also good stuff, but 2x cheaper than Asics.

You're going to have a really hard time finding shoes with lateral stability mechanisms. Maybe a brace? Or maybe the rolling to the outside thing you're experiencing is less a physiological issue and more of a biomechanical/technique issue?

For instance...the next time you go for a run, concentrate on pushing off with your big toe and see what happens.

I had something similar to this. I always walked on the outside of my feet. When I got into running it became unbearable to try to run. Always tripping over myself. When to a Foot clinic. turns out I have bowed tibias. Got some custom made orthotics, and now I run like the wind...Haven't had an issue since.

The "Wind" Trevor?!?!?
Don't make me copy the Team 1 spreadsheet over here.

I also am afflicted with the supination.  Although it's relatively mild.  My podiatrist insert some small wedges on the outer rear corner of my running shoes and it made all the difference.

Now if you are wanting more stability for trails I think that will have more to do with ankle "strength" than support.  Something I used to do was stand and balance on one foot for as long as possible.  It will really improve your ankles.

Also a supinator.

Best luck so far with Brooks Defyance.  I am in Version 2.0 now.  Also had good luck with Glycerine but it was a tiny bit narrow for my foot (the defyance has widths available).

Only issue withe Defyance (at least version 1) was the life.  Only got about 350 miles before my body told me to get new ones.  Got 400m out of the Glycerine.

Before realizing I needed a nuetral shoe, I got a bad case of ITBS from running in "support" shoes (asics 2130).  Once I got into some neutrals, the pain went quickly away.  That is why EVERYONE here tells people to get fitted at a running store, not a big box store or self diagnosing.
