Pre-race routine:

Up at the crack of sparrows' farts, 4:00am. Made some green tea, toast with peanut butter and stressed about getting the boys all set for the day. Headed down to the race sight around 5am. Thankfully I didn't have to worry about packing up our hotel room before we left :)

Got to the race sight and got a parking spot without any trouble. It pays to be early! Saw Havefun and our friends from our local tri group. Lots of half iron virgins this year :)
Event warmup:

I had good intentions of doing a warm up swim, but I didn't get my arse down to the water in time.
Swim
  • 34m 58s
  • 2000 meters
  • 01m 45s / 100 meters
Comments:

Holy crap! I thought that I had on "ok" swim and it wasn't until I talked to my Mom that I discovered that I had a KICKASS swim (well, kickass for me). I didn't get off to a great start, though. Somehow I ended up in the middle of the washing machine and got elbowed in the mouth, and then got swam over a few times. Needless to say I got a good lungful of water and had my panic attack. But I sucked it up and kept searching for some "real estate" in the water. It wasn't until we started to head back that I had clear sailing. That's when I really started to enjoy my swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 1
  • 03m 15s
Comments:

I'm never fast in T1, but I think that it went a little faster than it usually does. Had a little trouble getting my arm warmers on.
What would you do differently?:

Hmmmm...suggestions??
Bike
  • 3h 08m 4s
  • 87 kms
  • 27.76 km/hr
Comments:

Again...Holy crap! I was really surprised at how good I felt on the bike this year. Same course last year took me 3:30. I really payed attention to working with the gears this time and not being a woosy on the hills :)
What would you do differently?:

Not a thing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

This one went pretty smoothly. No farting around like I usually do :)
Run
  • 1h 56m 17s
  • 20 kms
  • 05m 49s  min/km
Comments:

I really payed attention to settling into the run instead of my usual sprint out of transition. I ran a pretty steady pace with walk breaks through the water stations. The last five KM I started to break down and looked forward to getting it done. My knees and quads were screaming by that point, but I was waaaaaaaay ahead of my time goal so I had incentive to keep moving forward as fast as I could.
What would you do differently?:

More brick work in training.
Post race
Warm down:

Stood in the cold water for a good five minutes. It felt sooooooo good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bricks...need more bricks.

Well done. You were one of those fast runners who passed me on the run.  I was doing the race as a relay and it was fun.
