Bike Trainers

Thanks very much for the info sesh.  Anyone else have any opinions?

I have only had 1 trnr, magnetic, but I want to try a fluid trnr now. The mag has been fine and I've actually ridden the heck out of it. I keep it on the hardest resistance setting at all times but I still feel like I can overpower it somewhat, so I would like a harder resistance level. Maybe I'm just in a lot better cycling shape.

Do a search on here for the angry badger at bikesportmichigan. You will be very happy. Also, try checking craigslist or ebay for many items such as this.

+1 for craigslist.  Trainers are the kind of things that people often buy with the intent of using them but they never (or hardly) do...like a treadmill!

I got my fluid trainer @ Performance Bike.  It's their house brand, Travel Trac I think?, and it works fine.  Everything at Performance Bike seems to always be on sale and they have a 90-day price guarantee so if it's not on sale right now, don't sweat it.  It probably will be within 90 days and then you can call and get your difference back.

+1 on the Angry Badger. That's what I've got and I'm happy with it, not a single problem.

Ditto on the angrybadger at bikesportmichigan.com,  call them and they will tell you what trainer they are offering.  It is usually a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine.  Great price.

I just jumped on the fluid trainer band wagon. After some consideration (mainly price vs potential usage) I settled on the JetBlack fluid trainer http://www.jetblackproducts.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1403/.f . Recommended retail was $399 (Australian dollars), I found it online for $299. So far so good. Have found the resistance a little tougher than the road/bikeways around here, but I figure that's just me getting used to the different feel. Set-up is easy - I can do it in the dark. All in all a good middle of the road product. I want it to see me through the next couple of darker months (it's currently winter here) and any rainy/stormy summer evenings.

Rollers make you a better rider.

I've always wanted to try rollers...need to find a friend that will let me try them out.

I bought a Blackburn trakstand fluid trainer ($150?) 4 years ago b/c I broke my arm and couldn't ride.  Turns out I never really used it again... until NOW.  Our Seattle-like weather has forced me inside and I am becoming re-acquainted with the joys of riding a trainer.

It gives validation to the enormous plasma TV I purchased on a whim last fall.
I can watch endless episodes of trash shows and not feel guilty
I use the second cage to store the remote.
No angry city drivers try to run me off the road. (although occasionally the cat will try to claw herself up onto my lap- ouch!)

I got cycle ops fluid trainer2. I use it all the time and its quit enough to not disturb anyone. It was like 300 bucks from amazon, but if you work quite a bit of afternoons its worth the investment

I got what = angry badger this past fall, but I got mine on Ebay. If you wait until there's ebay coupons or cashback deals (via bing or whatever) you can get one fairly reasonable there if you jump on the right deal.

Mine was $190 new (forgot if that included shipping or not) which is so much cheaper then the stores. No riser though.

Love the trainer!

(edit to add: I was also using a stationary before. This is worlds better)
