Didnt see this event in the list on this website, I know a couple of people that will be doing it.  Looks like registration is still open, anyone have any expierence with it.  I think I'll sign up as the last tri of the summer for me.

I did this race last year.  I ended up signing up at the last second (I think it was 8 days before race day).  To be honest the only thing I remember about this race in vivid detail is missing the overall win by 8 seconds to a guy in another wave that I never even saw out on the course, so take my course descriptions below with a grain of salt.

Swim:  Typical 1 loop rectangular course.  The lake was definitely cleaner than what we're typically stuck with in the metro area.  The run up the beach to T1 was long, similar to Buffalo I'd say.

Transitions:  Pretty big transition area in a paved parking lot.  First come, first served on the rack space, but the layout is fair (always in one side and out the opposite) so it really doesn't matter where you're racked.

Bike:  1 loop course out in the country, fairly flat.  There were a couple "rollers" but nothing that had me out of the saddle.  I remember one 5-ish mile stretch of pretty rough pavement, but it was definitely the "ow, my taint!" annoying type of rough, not the tire-flattening, bottle launching dangerous type of rough.

Run:  Pancake flat through the residential neighborhoods around the lake.  Lots of turns though, so you can never really see more than a couple minutes ahead of you.

Overall I'd recommend it if you're looking for a race in late August.  The outstate TriMN races have a really cool vibe IMO.  Noticably more laid back than the big metro area races, but still well organized and safe with plenty of volunteers, water, etc.

GT ^ nailed it.  I did it last year and had fun and am signed up to do it again.  We have a cabin in the area, so it is a great one for me.  I thougt it was low key, very well organized, and a great late summer tri.

This was my first tri a few years ago so I have happy fun memories of Lakes, plus I grew up there.  GT has it, the lake is clean, the event is well run and Pine Beach Road on the back side of the bike loop hasn't been resurfaced in 20 years, but you probably won't lose your water bottle.  The only thing I wish that would improve this race would be a longer offering, oly or half iron, but 371 throws a wrench in that idea.

I think it's worth the drive from the metro just to swim in a clean lake!  I was in Nokomis today and my top which was once yellow is now brown with silt

Now the only question is where to stay, at our place up in Walker, or at a friends place about 30 mins away... hmmmm

I know 3 other people doing this one, will be fun to know others, looking forward to it.

Good to see that my brain still works.

I forgot to add that they do the awards for the TriMN series after the race.  I'm pretty sure Brad mails the stuff out to the age group winners anyway if they're not present, but if you're in the hunt for the points race and you want to be able to stand up in front of a few hundred people and hear someone else talk about how awesome you are, here's your chance. I'm planning on doing it again this year.  Grew up in the area, so, I gotta show up.

The previous report sums it up well.  There is one med. hill and a few rollers on the bike, but other wise fairly flat for most races I'm used to doing.  And, the run is as flat as it can get.

This was my first tri back in 2007, did it last year and will do it again this year. As was posted by others, it's a smaller laid back race. Nice lake, nice bike course (although a bit rough at times) with one bigger hill and then some rollers and then a nice flat run.

does anyone (Emily maybe) know how to get this race added to the 2009 lineup on this site, so you can add it to your races etc...  i don't know if you just create a new race or if you renew one, dont' want to loose the previous years race reports....

I added to my list.  Go to Race Log and click on Add a Race.  Put in the right criteria (date - Aug. 23, USA, Minnesota) and you will find Lakes Country Tri to add to your lis.

I'm in.

Family is staying at the host hotel for the weekend, $178 for 2 nights seems like a pretty good deal

I road the bike course this past weekend.  I'd say it is in fair shape.  The black top for the first half is good.  After about 2 miles on 77, the sholder gets rough until you turn south, and that road is also rough for the fist mile and a 1/2 after the turn.  Then it's new blacktop again.

i saw that deal and it looked pretty nice, were there passes to a waterpark as well?  Our cabin is an hour away, and my friends is about 20 mins away, I might be going one of those routes instead....  Sounds like there should be a decent turn out from the BT crowd.

So who all is in for this? I count at least 5 or 6. I'll be wearing my signature green Javelin trisuit, and may end up riding my bike there from the host hotel (seems like it is close enough) so I can leave the wife the car. They'll probably end up spending the morning at the waterpark anyway, but it makes for a nice warmup for me.

I hope gas prices are down this weekend. Looks like we are probably doing Red Wing -> Taylors Falls on Friday to hit the alpine slide and waterpark at Wild Mountain, then to Baxter on Friday evening, then perhaps a day trip to Park Rapids on Saturday to see my uncle-in-law and back to Red Wing on Sunday after the race (and maybe a stop at Paul Bunyan Land). Good thing the rest of the family is so good about riding in the car.

I am in for sure.  Thought the race was very well run last year.  Hope the weather is as nice.  Long term forecast looks good so far!  We have a cabin about 10 miles north, so great race location for me.

Was up there this past weekend and hoped to ride the course on Sun. morning, but it was rainy, so passed.  Drove home and rode in the cities in the late afternoon insted in great weather!

I'll be there.  This is the first race that I will actually know somebody else that is racing, so that will be fun.
It would be great if that forecast holds up.
