Subject: Does Bike Take More....
I am new to all of this, got of the couch about 12 weeks ago. I have been training 2 days run, 2 days bike, and 2 days swim. I have been thrilled with my running improvement, probably the best I have ever ran. My swim is finally improving (thanks to a lot of tips I read on this site), I still suck but I can see the light. My biking has not improved much at all, does it just take more time to see improvement. I have been running the longest, had to wait for pool to open and to buy bike, but still I have seen quicker improvements in run and swim. I have 10 weeks to my first tri, a sprint. Will it come if I am patient at just 2X a week or should I do an unbalance 3,2,1 switching the 1 between swim and run. I bike the longest 1 to 1 1/2 hrs per session and I do hills because there are a lot of hills where I live, but my average speed seems stuck. Any thoughts? Oh, I probably will not get away with any 2 a days with family and work at this point. Thanks for your help.

find a group ride (or someone to ride with that's a tad faster)!  i was stuck at the same average pace for a year, went on a group ride and realized i could keep up with them, even at 3mph faster than i thought i was!  i just wasn't pushing myself enough.

everyone is different....

for me, I excelled at biking first, based on race results and compared to my peers.

swimming was next and running has taken the longest.....

jsut keep doing all 3 and you will improve

Exactly. Bike was my first strength, then running, and...well, swimming never really did come around for me, heh. I'd just stick with what you're doing -- two of each every week -- until your tri. After the race you'll have a much better sense of your strengths and weaknesses and you can reevaluate your training then. (FYI, I found with the bike that my training paces were way off from my actual race paces. In training before my first tri I averaged maybe 13-15 mph -- on race day I was 18-19 mph.)

Im a newbie so please take this with a grain of salt...

i would bet your bike split is the most impactful for your overall time (take a look at your triathlons previous year results).  So if you are weakest at the bike then i would make it your emphasis (biking 3x a week). so choose the sport you feel more comfortable completing the distance in the swimming or running (if you do it once a week you probably wont improve, it will only be maintanance)
hope all goes well!

Congrats on getting off of the couch and into triathlons !

I think you just need to bike more and the speed/ endurance will come.

Biking is my hardest as well --- but that's mainly b/c I grew up swimming and have been marathon running for 5 years.

More T.I.T.S. needed*

*time in the saddle !

You don't log your workouts; how far do you ride each time and what kind of speeds do you ride? How do these distances compare to what you'll be tri-ing?
