Well isn't this a fine well-how-do-you-do? I wish that I could raise my rates artibrarily 5% during a down economy ...

I got this in my e-mail today. No "we are going to raise the fees by 5% because we are doing [_____________: <= insert something there]. No "We are going to raise your rates twice the rate of inflation because ______________". No "We are going to expand the aquatics program to better benefit all of our members.

It is, we are going to raise your rates "... just because".

Don't even get me started:  Go talk to someone about the bonehead GM at LTF Alpharetta and what he has decided to do with the Masters program at that location.

I went to Masters this morning at Alpha LTF.  I do not think there is one single participant from the morning group that is planning on signing up for the new program.

Wonder if this is just Johns Creek or family membership.  I didn't get an email.

Anyone at Alpha get one of these love letters?

What is the new program?  How much on top of your normal membership dues does it cost?

The guys I ride with on Saturdays were commenting about the same thing.  I think they brew their own swim WO's, so it's a non-issue for them cost-wise, but they were definitely commiserating with the folks in the Masters class.

I'm at Alpharetta and I didn't get one yet. You know it's probably coming though. I agree the management at Alpharetta is really deaf. One bone-headed move after another. Notice how we can't have guests on the weekend anymore?

We didn't get this notice at Sugarloaf so I wonder if it is just JCK for now and they'll do the other clubs at different times?

I think our Master's program is $35/month, not sure about the punch card. I can't find any more information about it on their website. (Surprise, surprise!) Don't get me started on that site. Yell

Their website sucks.  There is no information AT ALL about any of their masters swimming programs.  Believe me - I spent an hour looking for it after J22 told me last week about the changes.

What is the new program?  How much on top of your normal membership dues does it cost?

Right now it's $38 for 8 punches - very fair - only pay for what you use.

Now it is going to be $45/mo but paid quarterly so $135 a pop.  It is being offered:
Tues, Thurs 5:30 am - 7 am with Coach Susan
Tues, Thurs 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm with Coach Mike who no one knows and good luck getting a big group at that time of day.
Mon, Wed (I think) 11:45 am - 1:00 pm with Coach Mike

So basically $45 a month with the 4 options to swim (cause who is going to swim 2x a day Tues, Thurs?)  And in my world only 2 options cause I do not work close enough to swim at lunch on my lunch HOUR with drive time and showering.

Any other program that charges that much has many more choices for swim times.

This morning all peeps that were at Masters said they were not going to join the program and pay.  We're planning on swimming on our own, together.

PS - I think they had to raise the rates for Masters Swim to pay for the new (smaller) marble benches in the women's locker room.

Yes, I got the same exact email from Alpharetta location last night.

LTF has always been ridiculously expensive but I have always justified it because I thought the niceness and convenience of it made me go more often that I ever did at YMCA. Now at $117/month (family plus 2 kids), I may reconsider. I mainly need the pool for IM swim training but I guess I could join Dynamo for much less.

Anybody have any details of costs for Masters at Dynamo or the like in Johns Creek/alpharetta area? Also, any pools other than YMCA at Vickery have a saline pool. The chlorine kills my sinuses.

So far sounds like the raise if for family memberships?  Maybe Mila will read this and chime in.

See my post above for the info on the "new" (but not improved) Masters swim.

Hey at least your locations have a Masters program. I have started going to Mtn View for Masters after I recommended TWO overqualified people to teach Masters at MBR and they managed to run both off with their inefficient hiring practices. When you call a prospective employee for a "second interview" several times after they have already had a second (and third) interview it doesn't speak well for your organizational skills.

I got that lovely email from John's Creek too even though I signed up at Sugarloaf and go to both locations as I'm right in the middle of the two.  I'm wondering if Sugarloaf is going to do the same soon or if it is only justifiable in those upper class areas (speaking of, we went to the pool and my husband teased me about whether I was going to have any "improvements" done like a good percentage of the women there.....)

I would love to drop in occasionally for masters swimming but would never opt for anything more than a punchcard.  And yes....the website is miserable and a circus to navigate.

I just started @ Dynamo a couple of weeks ago.  I believe it's $50/month, unlimited access to masters, and maybe some additional pool time.  You can pay per visit, but I think it's about $10, so the $50/month makes much more sense.  I like it a lot.

Figured you did.  Can you shed some light on the new monthly fees.  Is this for everyone or just family?

Thx

Even the TdF spoilers? I still love LTF. I have heard nothing about a dues increase, but I am sure it is buried in some terms and conditions we signed.

DOH!  Busted.  Yeah, well, eventually I read them... but only after I watched .

There's lots to love about LTF .

Lisa, I PM'ed you right after your post.

I asked the question today about who, specifically, the dues increase affects.  If you have a single membership, your dues will not increase.  If you have a couples or family membership and you joined before May 1st, 2008 (which is when new member dues increased for couples/families), your dues will increase $2.00 to $5.00 per month depending on your location/membership type.  If you joined after that date, there should be no change.
