Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:45, got dressed, everything except waterbottles and bike were already in car. Ate two english muffins with peanut butter and honey. Loaded bike and left. Stopped at a 7-11 for a water bottle. Got to race, set up transition. Got daily business out of the way. Went to pool. Chatted with Johnny, Trent, and Kevin until race time.
Event warmup:

Got in pool and swam 50 yds. Probably should have run a little and swam more, but I am a slacker...
Swim
  • 05m 44s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Spring - 6:35 - improved by 52 seconds. I felt really good during the swim. I got a good start, I caught up to the guy in front of me towards the middle, but he was just fast enough for me to not pass him. They guy behind me got nowhere close. I hopped out of the pool and ran toward transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing except be a little faster...
Transition 1
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Spring time: 2:22 - improved by :53 - Not bad on transition - need to be a faster - probably could have cut another 10-20 seconds off max..
What would you do differently?:

Just be faster through transition
Bike
  • 49m 31s
  • 14 miles
  • 16.96 mile/hr
Comments:

Spring: 55:20 - improved by 5:49. For some reason, it took me 4 miles or so to get my legs under me on the bike. The wind and the hills combined to make the first half of the race pretty difficult. The backside of the course was nice, hit speeds of about 35-40 mph on a couple of the downhills. Turned down the final 2 miles and my chain dropped in the front and then lodged in between the small cog and the hanger in the back. Took me a minute or so to fix, but I lost my momentum which probably slowed me down by 2 minutes total. Dismount line came up quick and I was able to get only one shoe's velcro off. Thence begins the T2 saga..
What would you do differently?:

Overall I was a little dissappointed in the ride. I had been working on hills and weights, trying to get my leg strength up. I was hoping to pick up more time here and average closer to 20 mph. Maybe next time don't have 4 hours of soccer practice the day before the race :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Spring: 1:14 - loss of 43 seconds. Horrible, horrible, horrible T2... Let's see, got the velcro undone on one shoe, so I hobble / skipped to my rack to keep from losing the shoe. When I got to my rack some a-hole racked his bike back into my spot - I mean hanging right over my running shoes and all. Next time I will eject said bike over the fence - that will teach who ever to pay more attention. Instead I move down a little to rack. Some other a-hole barely hangs his bike on and it begins to fall off. So I end up re-racking his bike. Then I have to dig my shoes out from under the other bike. I then commit the mortal T2 sin - sit down to put socks on - I was beyond caring at that point.
What would you do differently?:

Everything!
Run
  • 28m 23s
  • 2.9 miles
  • 09m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Spring: 34:00 Improvement of 5:37. Overall I am pleased with the run. I was running much faster than I do during workouts. That is probably the reason that I ended up taking a couple of walk breaks. Got no complaints.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training to be faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around some. Should have done more...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training (does anyone put anything else here???)

Event comments:

Nicely put on event.

Improvement just about everywhere!  OUTSTANDING!  BS about the guy racking his bike there but way to overcome it and bust out the run.

Great job. Sorry about your chain.  That always sucks. And you were much nicer than I would have been in T2.  Very cool of you to fix guy #2's bike for him.

Great job and an awesome improvement in time since Spring!

Ugh! That pisses me off when someone racks their bike in the wrong spot! I've had that happen to me too, and I like your idea of just launching it. Really... how hard is it to rack the bike back where you got it from?!?
