I just have 1 tri (an olympic) under my belt.

Swim  MOP  (114/380)

Bike    BOFOP  (31/380)

Run    FOP   (4/380)

I have my 2nd race on Oct 10th, so we will see, but I am not thinking anything will be too different if anything I have let the swim slip.

I am about as MOP as it gets usually.  Sometimes FOMOP on the bike.  Depends on how consistantly I have been biking.

in short course racing:

swim normally in the top 5
bike unless something went wrong i am off the front or moving through the first waves and in the top 2.
run normally top 5 or so.

transitions i normally have the two best in the race.

in longer races, swim moves back a bit, but sitll top 20
bike near the front- top 5 or 6.
run near the front-top 10

Nice progress!! Congrats!!

I'm usually mid/back of pack in the swim, mid-pack for the bike, and near the front on the run, for a total of mid/front of pack finish. In my last Olympic Distance this past weekend, only 2 people had faster run splits, and those were the first 2 finishers who went under 2 hours overall! Now if I can only get my swimming and biking up there with my run!!.......

Happy training!!

In my last race
First out of the water (of 93), 20th on the bike and 25th on the run.  10th overall.

I used to be an MOP swimmer, OK biker (BOFOP) and FOP runner. Now, I'm FOP on all 3- including the SWIM (which is huge for me), and in my last race, I beat all the guys except for 1 dude. Granted, there were only 35 people in the whole race, but I was still pretty happy to be #2 overall and #1 female

Run =4/73

Good for 2nd overall.

2 sprints & 1 Oly with a 1,900ft/12 mile climb to start the bike leg

Swim FOP  (top 15%)
Bike MOP  (top 40%)
Run BOFOP (top 20%) - well, of the one that I wasn't totally tanked by the time the run came around

My lesson - bike, bike, bike

Overall:
Swim - FOP
Bike - Front of MOP
Run - MOP

In my AG:

Bike - Back of MOP
Run - BOP

Since I do xterras my MOP swim might be more BOP against the higher level of comp in a road tri

But I'm also almost exactly 50th percentile in all three in my last race, which put me at around 35-40th percentile in the overall finish since I wasn't terribly weak at any one either.  I'm not including my first one since I totally screwed up my pacing on the swim and suffered through the bike and run portions of that race.

Best ROI right now is for me to stick with MOP swim, and try to get FOP bike then run splits since my bike split is about 30 minutes behind the lead, and the run is about 20-25 minutes behind, while the swim is only 10 minutes behind.

Swim- I was in the top 5-10% but I've had two AC separations this summer from bike crashes so now I'm probably in the top 25-35% due to a month off training for each injury.

Bike- Top 0-3% and getting faster due to relatively big volume since I still can't swim (and I love riding). I've knocked 10 minutes off my personal 60 mile time trial course in the last two months.

Run- My weakness. Top 54% in a competitive (Boulder,CO) 2008 HIM. Improved to top 28% in the same race in 2009 (17 minute half mary improvement).

That is the front of the front of of the front the pack in most sprints. 23-24 will keep you with the leaders. In the 8 sprint tris I did this year no one cracked the 24 mph barrier. At 21-22mph you would be in the top 10%. At 20mph you are safely in the top third.

I'm BOP in everything  but what does overall ranking really tell you?
Doesn't it depend on size of the race and WHO shows up where you wil rank against the competition?   There is a local man who races the local tri and is always one of the last few finishers but he is 80 years old now.. he's BOP  but is he really???

also need to take into account not all the courses around us are wildly accurate.

i tend to check my bike time from my SRM and not the race website. i know some races for instance that messure via a car, some just map it out.

i have done races that claimed an 18 mile course, and my SRM had me at 22 miles another that said 15, and i was done around 20 min. no way.
