Bear,

I'll be staying in the area for about a week visiting the folks.  So, I can meet for packet pickup, lunch, drive the course.

Where ever you guys decide to eat dinner is fine with me.  Probably the best idea is a pasta resteraunt.  Not sure boiled crawfish is the best pre-race food .

BTW...M/M Zia_cyclist will be there.

The idea about a canopy would be great.  Mrs. Zia_cyclist easily turns to a nice "boiled crawfish" color when in the sun.

I think we will be in for dinner this time. We will see on the packet pick up, etc. Did this race 2 years ago in my first season and it was a break through race for me. I need another breakthrough so I am back. Marcy flatted twice so she is out for revenge on the road. The race packet is not River Cities but its the best I have gotten anywhere but River Cities. That packet really sets expectations high! Oh, we stayed at the race hotel, I agree its pretty dumpy but oh so convenient. Parking for the race is the hotel parking lot. Probably gonna try to upgrade to somewhere with a pool.

This race should be very exciting with Bear, Will, Rob, Zia and myself fairly close in our times. Bear has home field advantage, Zia looks really fast, Will will be half done with the bike before we get out of the water, and Rob has revenge on his mind. I am going to stop logging so you can't see what i am doing!!!! Can't wait for this one.

All of these posts back and forth about CajunMan....  Are you all training for it, or just talking about the pre- and post- party opportunities?   Now... GET ON YOUR BIKES AND RIDE (apologies to Queen).

Subject: RE: CajunMan Run Route

Playing around here, FWIW this should be the running route at CajunMan. Only mapped one-way, you have to turn around to retrace your steps. Most of the route is on a service road to the airport, that is a runway you run around and there is a tiny bit of a hill at that point.

Also shows a good aerial shot of the lake and the transition area, which is that green space between the run start and the lake.

Maybe I'll do the run course after lunch.

Yes, Yes it is an active airport.  With airliners too.  I used to fly into there quite a bit when our company provided service to LFT.

It even looks like on of our airlines Saab 340.  I can't ever recall taking off that way, so I don't think it was me flying it.

Edit. On second look, I realize it was the runway we normally used.  I wish I could find the date:time stamp for that pic.

God I wish I could come down south  for the crawfish boil. I heard in Inside Triathlon that Cajun Man was so fun that people signed up, didn't do the race, and went straight to the post race party.  Sounds like a hoot.  Have fun Ya'll!  That's the Tennessee in me.

Okay, so my boss (a Lafayette native) has me freaked out about the aligators in that lake.  Are the race directors going to set off a few thosand pounds of dynamite in the lake the night before to get rid of the critters with big, sharp, pointy teeth?

The alligators there haven't bitten a triathlete in two, maybe three years. They do help to keep the population of water mocassins and nutria.

To all:  And please send this email to anyone and everyone in the multisport community!

The 2005 CajunMan Triathlon has been cancelled.  We regret that we have to do this - but due to the nature of the circumstances that have occurred and affected S. Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama - this is the only right thing to do.  The CajunMan will donate all food supplies, water, Gatorade, shirts, etc. to assist and help those that are in need.  Also, monies that have not been spent will be given to the Red Cross (or the like) in the form of a check.  In fact, I have already dropped off hundreds of shirts, 25 - 30 cases of water and Gatorade, toilet paper, anti-bacterial soap and even deodorant (Degree was a sponsor) today at the CajunDome.  I still have more shirts and other items to give - but my car was full to the top.

If held, the CajunMan would be a strain on the police force, Acadian Ambulance, the hotels (which are completely sold out), traffic, and the Lafayette Regional Airport (which is where the race is held).  When discussing this with these governmental agencies they were thankful of my decision.  Water, food and the like which was to be provided at the CajunMan is no longer available as these items are scarce or no longer available in Lafayette.  In addition, many of our volunteers, sponsors and our race committee members are busy helping out with the relief efforts.  Manpower would be scarce at the CajunMan.  And besides, there are bigger things in life than triathlons - such as life itself.

This is an unbelievable tragic and horrific occurence - and the ripple effect has already been felt here in Lafayette and many other surrounding areas.

I wish all of you well.

I'm okay.  We're staying with my sister-in-law in Monroe, LA.  I'm trying to find work, my husband is going to Baton Rouge indefinitely to assist with triage and care for patients from NO hospitals.  As of right now, we have no income.

We just cancelled our Hawaii vacation.  We managed to get a refund from the condo and a credit for the airline tix.  We're heartbroken.

We have a few other problems, but in all, we will survive. We have shelter, food, family, and most importantly, credit cards.
