In ... just hoping that my legs heal from the race yesterday to be able to throw down a nice time.

As to water quality, I thought that the bacteria problem was down river in Atlanta and not the upper part/Lake Lanier?  Is it possible that they will cancel the swim?

Oh Brian, that would be my dream! LOL

But, you're probably right. I was joking and haven't even read where the contamination is.... I just am not as strong a swimmer as I hope to be, and haven't had much practice since my last tri - my own fault!

If the water was unsafe, I'm sure it would be cancelled...

Water is fine up here at the lake, I swam there yesterday. There is a bit of debris floating around as seen up on shore and out in the water but it was fine.

the swim will probably be another 10-20 yards though since the water level is up a bit, I was about to make a post on the water level but here is one pic

That is at Mary alice park in cumming. Just 2 weeks ago that marker was about 10 feet up the beach and I used to use it for stretching now it is about 10 feet into the water and up to the 3 ft mark! Both of those red buoys in the picture were on the beach too.

Oh and I am in, first race. Finally!

I'm in!  It's my last of the season so I'm hoping for a PR.  I swam in the lake on Sunday.  It wasn't too bad and since it is such a short swim, I'm not planning on wearing a wetsuit as I'll probably lose time trying to get the thing off.  Good luck to everyone!  I've got two friends that will be tackling their first triathlon so I'm really excited for them too.

Part of my job is to read and post on forums all day I tend to get sucked in even if it is not for work..

I am excited too, parents are even flying in from NJ.  Figured it was a good excuse for them to come visit even though I Was up there 2 weeks ago for a cousins wedding an the week before that for work.

I don't know the exact temps of the water but it was fine for me it almost seemed warmer then the air when I got in sunday morning and about the same as the air when I got out, this was around 9:30 am.  I am not wearing a wet suit since I wasn't going to spend the money for my first race and I have experience as a kid swimming in much colder water, nothing like starting summer swim practice in may outside in NJ. After about 100 yards I didn't even notice the water was cooler than my body temp.

quick google and a fishing site said that it was 78 degrees on the 25th(friday)

That is the link to all the race info that I got this morning, assuming anyone racing got it as well but in case not here it is. All the previous info had said it would be wetsuit legal but this now says they will determine on race day. Since 78 is the cut off and that is what it was last week who knows if it will be legal or not yet.

the higher the water - the shorter the hill up to transition... :-)

I'm in!  Hopefully my one swim and one ride in the past month won't effect my race!

Come by the PT Solutions Physical Therapy tent after the race if you've got any aches and pains!

Im in too.  This is my second time on this course, so I am just hoping to beat last year's time....
Good luck everyone!

Is anyone planning to lock their bike up Saturday?  Not that there won't be at least 600 bikes there nicer than mine, but just wondering as I've never done an advance drop off before.  Do you leave any other transition gear overnight or just the bike?

Don't worry about locking your bike, they will have security around the clock ... and it is not like there is easy access to/from the transition area as it is on a peninsula with only one enterance/exit point.

Just bring your bike, not other gear.  I doubt anyone will be allowed to bring anything out of transition before race morning but it is a lot easier to keep tabs on a bike than other gear.  Definitely no need to lock up your bike (and there isn't anything secure to lock it to because the racks can be disassembled).

Courtney, I'm pretty sure you have plenty of stamina for a sprint considering your last race was an Ironman....this will be a walk in the park for you.

Me too! First race!

Wife, daughter and I are staying with friends who live 12 miles from the start. We were talking yesterday and she got all excited, hopped in the car and drove the course. She was hilarious..."ok, ok, pretty flat...nope now a little incline..a little incline...not having to push TOO hard on the gas...ok now level...whoa gas $2.16...now downhill, downhill, downhill...you are styling now!!!" She did this the entire course. What a hoot! Hills are of some interest as living in Savannah...I have never seen oneCry

Beginner question: I am sure the transition will be a bit tight and race instructions say only racing gear here...where does one leave a little duffle with few odds and ends? (morphine, flexeril, ibuprofen, baby wipes...)

You can put your bag with all extranous stuff as well as your pump next to the fence.

Was that the QT on the corner of peachtree and shadeburn? I think its a QT.. they always seem to have cheap gas there I've stopped while out test driving cars to make some adjustments (live and work right there) and some days the cars are backed up onto the road since it is so cheap.

And I sort of did the same with the car. I've driven all the roads but shadeburn but was going to meet the GFs family for dinner and made sure i went that way since I never thought to check the elevation while driving after a friend commented on it for that part of the course.

I'm in and looking forward to it.  Last race for the season.   Daimyer, hopefully the knee is feeling better than after Navigator's run (what fun that was).

And I don't know about you guys, but my bike doesn't take unleaded since I removed the engine so I'm not planning on stopping at the QT.Laughing  Now I'm starting to wonder why I may be slower than the rest.

See ya bright and early Sun morning.
