Extreme Veteran 430 Madison, WI | Subject: RE: Pros are getting chicked!!! I've got an issue with the concept of getting chicked...I mean, for god's sakes there are Olympic medalists out there on the course. Of course they're going to pass some dudes. I speak as a male...I pray for the day when women started getting "guyed". We all need to get over ourselves. |

Champion 6503 NOVA - Ironic for an Endurance Athlete | Subject: RE: Pros are getting chicked!!! I just invented another term... "Geezed" def. ~ Getting overtaken by a person who is obviously two or more AG older What about this one? "AG-ed" def. ~ Getting overtaken by an age grouper I meant no offense, I actually think that it is great that women (ok Chrissie) is so strong that she can finish top 10 Overall in almost any race. I cannot wait until she wins one! Edited by pga_mike 2009-10-10 2:04 PM |

I think it is relevant because it is been shown over the years in general men are superior endurance athletes physiologically speaking at the IM distance and the time difference are 30+ min. What Chrissie is doing so far is very impressive... |

Regardless, go Chrissie! I think I may have just overheard that Chrissie will have a 30-40 minute lead off the bike. Is that even possible?? |

I wouldn't presume it's demeaning to her as I would venture a guess that in her mind she's starting to review her races in relation to the men at some level anyhow. I will never be considered fast in the sport of triathlon. However, skiing is another story. More than once I've been at the top of a challenging run and overheard comments from guys near me about how I might not be able to handle it or how superior they are. I take great pleasure in letting them get their head start then "chicking" them a bit later when I go flying by them. I love the double takes they do when that happens. Our society in general holds the view that men are superior to women in sports (and I'm not necessarily disagreeing) but it means that women work harder to even the playing field and I know that my expert skier friends and I all take great pleasure when we get a chance to prove our abilities. Especially to those that like to talk smack. :p |

My wife went with me and she got a chuckle out of it. I think she finished 5th overall. There are a lot of women out there that can smoke a Tri. |

I am 23, for reference - made me feel SLOW! i did end up passing him and never seeing him again though |

She won a bunch of ultras outright Yes Ann is a legend. http://www.ultralegends.com/ann-trason/ http://www.coolrunning.com.au/ultra/1998016.shtml My understanding was that male and female performance get much closer the more endurance and pain are involved. Triathlon ia a bit different because of the bike leg and the leg strength involved, especially on a hilly course. I think we will see more improvement in the womans Tri times in all categories over the next few years especially in the full Ironman distance, some limitations are purely mental.
