Subject: BT branded iPhone App - It's Here!

Fructose LLC has been working with BT on a BT branded iPhone app.  The app will allow users to log their training both on the device and will initially allow one-way syncing, from iPhone to BT, for Bronze, Silver & Gold members.  You are not required to have a BT account but must do so to take advantage of the syncing feature, otherwise all data will be stored on the iPhone only.

Features of v1.0 will include:

  • Ability to log swim, bike & run workouts (enter time & distance, app will auto calculate pace)
  • Ability to log “top level” strength workouts (enter top level category and time)
  • Ability to log sports (“Misc.” sport category and time)
  • For all workout types you will be able to enter comments
  • You can view workouts sorted by day or sorted by type (swim, bike, run etc..)
  • Summary screen showing month to date totals
  • Ability to delete and edit workouts

This release will be a basic platform on which we will continue to build and add new features.  Two-way sync is already planned for a future release (it’s a LOT more complicated).

Our hope is to have it available around the beginning of December (the Apple approval process time can vary greatly) but no promises.

Below are a few screenshots of the work in progress.  The layout and functionality of these may change at any time without notice.  A few of them will be blank but I am placing them here so I can change them on our end and they will update as we update the screens (so check back for new screens periodically)

If you have questions please feel free to ask (we will be asking for input on a few items) but please do not turn this into a feature request thread.  The scope for v1.0 is set and it will not be altered.  We may have a separate wishlist thread after v1.0 is released for v2.0

So we have a question....

When you sync an entry from the app right now we add a tagline to the comment section "Added from my iPhone".  This allows you to identify which entries were synced from your phone vs the ones that were entered on BT.

Is this something you'd want to see?  Not want to see?  Have the ability to turn on and off?

I would vote for being able to turn it on or off.

Is this by some miracle in a Java platform that may be ported over to other phones? iPhones are extremely popular and cool and all, but they are limited to 1 carrier.

Will this work with the Apple iTouch?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. This is a very cool app, and many thanks for putting the time and effort into developing it.

Not want to see or ability to turn it off.

Can't wait for the app to be available.

I would want to be able to turn it on and off.  Choice is always a good thing!

Not Java...Apple uses it's own language based on C.  While there are no promises, if this becomes a popular app we will talk to BT about getting it ported over to the BlackBerry and/or Android platforms.  However, that is, quite honestly not on the radar at the moment.  We want to get one out there before worrying about other platforms to support.

And yes it will work on the iPod Touch.  It's basically the same device minus a phone.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make one for my Blackberry!!!! I would love this app, but I think that AT&T (not Apple, just AT&T) is evil and will never switch my service to them

You can always get an iTouch...   Like I said, a BB app is quite a ways off.

AT&T may not be the only carrier of the iphone after this year.  Their contract is up this year.

Updated screen shots...(in the first post... might need to hold down SHIFT and hit reload if the images are cached in your browser)

..and we know a lot of you would like a BB app.  I just don't want this thread to turn into a "x27 for the BB app" list... OK?

Thanks...

OK now just a bike mount. Dock adapter for heart rate and cadence. Not really a stretch.
