Downloaded app and uploaded last nights workout. Yay.
A run (walk actually).
Didn't take .25 of mileage total: 3.25, didn't take seconds of time 1:06:39, and miscalculated pace, which I didn't want included anyway, cause it was a walk.
So yah, kinda a fail in my book, as I had to go back in through web browser and fix.

So can we include mileage with xxx.xx, time with xx:xx:xx, and the option to not include pace in the next iteration?

P.s. yes i'm anal about the .xx and :s

I've had a couple of people contact me about the app as my side company was the initial developer (and I'm the OP in this thread).  We turned development of the app over to BT several months ago.  We were working on it in our spare time and frankly were were not getting as much done as we would have liked (too busy with s/b/r).  So we turned all of code over to BT.

So, I really can't help you on the app.  Your best bet is to keep posting in this thread.  Looks like Mike & Ron are on top of the bugs.  And be patient.  Custom code always has some hidden bugs.  Just report what you find and I'm sure they will be addressed as quickly as possible.

Glad to see this app finally come out.  Good work guys!

Ron - 2011-02-10 9:31 AM 1 - Spacing in usernames won't login is confirmed.
2 - Run pacing in MPH is correct on the app, though needs new units and is wrong on the BT side - confirmed.
3 - The time/am-pm 1.5 hours difference is confirmed.

We will let this sit today, let me know if anymore issues and we will push for a quick revision to fix these bugs and a new version submitted ASAP.

Thanks Ron - us two name users want in on the band wagon!

Ron, Mike, everyone, nice job.

Check on one more please:

Added a run workout for yesterday and I typed "stairs at the rio" and, once synced, it showed up (and still is) in my blog as "stairsatherio". Looks like it just didn't recognize the spaces.

Again, though, thanks...

My guess is that the problem is a user name that is 2 words with a space between them.

Downloaded it and it works great to sync minus the issues that everyone else has mentioned.

Will it ever include the equipment tracker? I'd love to be able to track the amount of miles that I'm putting on my shoes. And along those lines - to be able to use the saved routes as well.

In my opinion, the new app is not of much use because of it's limited scope and many bugs. . If you have the IPhone 4, you can put the BT training log screen on your home screen. Then you have access to all the features of the website. I am a huge fan of Beginner Triathlete but think this app is a real disappointment.

Love the app but please please please change it too allow seconds and fractions of a mile to be added it's a pain to be only able to enter portions of workouts. Even with the duel sync when it comes to my iPhone the numbers are rounded down (ex. 2.5 miles to 2 and 21:37 min to 21). Please let me know if this is a problem for only mine or if others are having the same issues. Thanks

It did end up being a huge disappointment.  You can put the blame squarely on me for not being a part of the final testing.  It won't happen again.  I can live with some minor bugs, but there are too many major bugs.

All of these bugs are going to be worked on with high priority this week so we can have a revision in 2-3 weeks.

Again, sorry.

As a software project manager I can say this is a hard thing to do. You're doing right by your users in admitting issue and planning fixes. I know your pain, and I wish you well.  Go get em!

mpdiotte - 2011-02-09 3:36 PM Sweet! Is there a way to view planned workouts by day and not sport?

^^THIS.

Annoying that it is sorted by sport then date.

Also, anyway to display todays date on the planned workout page (or have the app position "todays" workout)?  Or maybe display the workout date AND day (i.e. WED/THU/FRI).   I never know what the day number number is.

When I hit sort it toggles between sorting by day and sorting by sport.  So I hit sort once it's sorted by day.  I hit sort again it goes to by sport.  I hit sort again and it goes by day.

Did anyone else have the same problem I had with the time for the workout showing 0:00:00 but the details have minutes, etc.?  Is that time supposed to be time of day or is it supposed to be time of the workout?

Unless i'm missing something that only works in "actual" and i think everyone who has mentioned this, or at least I know I would, like to see it for planned as well

BTW, thanks all who had a hand in this for getting this out there for us!!

Bella Vista,
Subject: RE: BT branded iPhone App - It's Here!
I am another BT user that is going to 2nd many complaints about the app. I was disappointed, but we've waiting this long already--they'll have it fixed soon enough. Seems like they are taking the complaints in stride and have accepted the complaints as constructive criticism. For the time being, lets consider this first release a test run and those who downloaded it the test group. Also, keep in mind that many features on BT are free and the app was free. Think of how convenient their site is to begin with--throw an app in and we're pretty spoiled to have such sweet tools to track and log our training.

Maybe some agree, maybe some will be ticked off, but my main question is why is the app free? Sure, I like free stuff as much as the next guy, but I think there should be at least a minimum charge (maybe 99 cents) for a basic version, more for an advance version. I don't think the BT guys are going to get rich off this, but their website, compared to what I've seen, is the best tri site out there. I get enough out of the basic/free level that I have no complaints--they've made no money, directly, from me. I'd pay for an app. Think of the crappy apps you've purchased for a buck or so--then think of how much use you're going to get out of this one.

Thanks for developing it.

Not entirely sure I agree here.  I pay for (happily) Silver membership on the website.  Unless there is some sort of functionality that makes the iPhone app a must-have, I appreciate that it's a free app.  If it's a paid app and doesn't offer functionality on par with what I need to do on the website, I'm more likely go skip the app and just go online to do what I need to do.

Hi everyone,

We've had reports of people with spaces in their usernames being unable to log in with the app. We can't reproduce this and would like some more information. If you're experiencing this, can you give us some more detail? Such as device, iOS version etc? Thanks.

I completely agree.

I think that folks would get more functionality out of a fully functional but mobile phone friendly webpage.

an m.beginnertriathlete.com if you will.

It is pretty common, and there is no sacrifice on usability.

I have the app, but I prefer to just go to the site on safari and get frustrated trying to zoom the parts that I need, pushing the wrong link, etc.

From a technical point of view... I have never gotten the correct time to log... neither when I go to default or hand-enter.

It reads as true, the posts something different.

An m.beginnertriathlete.com is what we're aiming for and it's currently in the early design stages.  We've actually contracted with a programmer who is also a BT'er to do the job. Between HTML5,  CSS3, and javascript there isn't much that a mobile page couldn't do that we'd need. We could even access the GPS.

For those with a technical bent, I'm leaning towards using jQuery mobile for the UI. If you have any other recommendations for a mobile framework, I'm all ears.

It's definitely not a replacement for the website like the Facebook app, but I do think that logging on the go is great. The first thing I would change would be the grouping/sorting. I understand that the app separates the swim, bike, and run logs. You could still change the groups to days so that we would see all three listed together.

Just got the first build of the app with bug fixes. Not quite there but almost.

V2 of this app and the Android app are going to be killer. I give you my word on that.
