Who's in?

Any cheap hotels or motels near this start? I'd rather not pay the prices the "host" hotels are charging.

I'm hoping to find the cheapest hotel/motel I can for the CT race.

Prices at the Hampton Inn in CT were pretty reasonable.

Mee too!!!!  And I found that the 'host' hotel on Cedar Point was giving some really good rates.  But there are lots off site that are very reasonable.  I would just suggest that you bike ride into the park, because I think that the traffic getting through the front gates will be SLOW!!!!

Just pulled the trigger and registered for the Rev3 Quassy Half.  This will be my first HIM, so I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Is there an official thread specifically for the Quassy race?  Should we get the ball rolling on that?

I'm staying at the Howard Johnson in Bethel for $60 per night.  According to Goodle maps it's about 30min away so I figure 1 hour should cover it. I'd drive further than that from home to do a local Tri so...

I made reservations @ the "host" hotel for about $110 a nite.  Seemed to be pretty reasonable to me.  Looked at some of the other properties and they were maybe a little less expensive but the host hotel looks good for amenties (ie, things to make the rest of the family happy as they indulge my obsession, er hobby)

Hey everyone, I just registered for the Quassy Half.  That Bike Course and Run looks tough!!  Get ready for some Hills!

On JMK's advice I booked the Hampton Inn.  I got a large suite for $145, figuring the wife can keep the kiddies on the other side of the room the night before so I can get some rest.  Yeah right!

Does anyone know if we get a discount at the Amusement Park for registering in the Race?

I was watching the 'live' race video from last year and, again, the bike course looks reasonably challenging.

How did you get access to the race video from last year?  I would love to see that.

It's right on the website.  Live Race Video is the 3rd video down: http://www.rev3tri.com/quassyComingSoon.htm

It's actually quite funny because last year was the inagural race, and they are working out all the kinks of filming to event and reporting it live.  The one blonde reporter didn't know they were showing her, and she spits her gum out in her hand and throws it.  Lots of stuff like that going on... Classic Stuff!!  Also a sick shot of Joe Gambles going into a very aero position (a' la Paula Newby Frasier in Kona in '83 I believe).  In this wicked agressive aero position he just blows by this other rider without even pedalling, and the other dude was pedalling!!

Does anyone have an elevation type map of the course. Or, know where a link is? I'd like to know when the hills are and how steep ect...Last year I looked at one for Timberman and I think it really helped with planning nutrion and pacing ahead of time.

I'll be somewhere on course volunteering for this one - it's too soon after Triple T to get me back out on the hills to race.  Maybe I'll volunteer at the top of the big hill they keep talking about!

I've been talking to more and more people about this Race, and I keep hearing the same thing: the hill are relentless on the Bike and Run.  The only thing flat about this course is the swim.

What also caught my attention was the interview on the website with Michael Lovato.  He's a seasoned Pro and he compared this course to St. Croix and Wildflower.  THAT'S NOT A GOOD THING!  He said this is one of the toughest courses he's done and he said he was thankful they had cool weather.  Let's hope we don't have a scorcher this year!!

Train those Hills people!

I'm doing the CdA full three weeks later, though this is close by so I'll do at least the Olympic distance...would love to do the half, but with killer hills on the bike/run, I don't want to kill my self too much with only a few weeks to taper...

Thanks for the info though!

Is it just free for us, the Racers?  Or any family members, too?

I’m psyched. It looks like a great race. I wish I could do the HIM, but if falls on my son’s birthday.

Can’t wait for the waterpark, though. We’re staying at the Hampton Inn. I’m hoping they’ll have some kind of taxi or shuttle on Race morning, so my wife won’t have to drive me over at 5am then hang around waiting for the race to start.
