Pre-race routine:

Where does the pre race routine start? Is it the day we left Milwaukee? Is it the "carb" loading we did ALL day Friday? Could it be the super mellow day of shopping, eating and going to see O on Saturday night? Or do I just start with Sunday morning? I guess I should start there. Got up around 4 cuz Clint couldn't sleep, got dressed ate a bagel and cream cheese (no peanut butter to be found that morning), had some oj, took a phone call from Ben (who was confused as to what to wear for the race) and then met the Scharff's and the Schmeiser's in the lobby.
Event warmup:

Walked to the start corrals about a mile and a half from our hotel. NICE. Good thing we were able to walk cuz the strip was closed to ALL traffic including taxi's. Heard it was about a $30 ride for some because the drivers had to take all back streets. Anyway, stood around trying to stay warm as I handed my sweatshirt off to the best sherpa in the world (Holly Schmeiser), watched the fireworks, listened to some music thru very static-ee speakers and watched the first corrals pass us by.

Comments:

Thought I'd try to PR this race but with lack of miles over the past month could be unlikely. Looked for the pacer's but never found a sign. I was on my own...well, with 20,000+ other racers. Hit the mile marker and saw I was just over a 9' mile. Plan was to coast "downhill" for the first half to save legs for the "climb" back. Up to mile 6 was quite enjoyable. Lots of elvi sightings, a few bride and grooms, a couple of hoochy mama's and guys with no shirts on. As soon as I hit the turn around spot I could feel the "climb" in my hips. This wasn't going to be as easy as I thought. Kept looking at my watch, okay, if I run this pace I will get there at this time..and so on and so on....Hit mile 9 at 1:20. Cool, I thought. I can make it in 1:50 if I even ran 10' miles. Mile 10 came...eventually....oh wait, I had 4 miles left at mile 9...DUH!!! Okay, new strategy, keep it under 2. That last 5k was brutal. Just kept picking someone out to catch and pass. Seemed to work for a while. Mile 12, only 1.1 to go. I can see the Mandalay Bay now. Almost there. Doesn't seem too far away. Wait a minute, I am now past the Mandalay Bay and headed into a driveway. Where the hell is the finish line? They had us snaking all over the place in the parking lot. Minutes were ticking away and it seemed the distance was not. Finally I saw the finish line. Thank God!! It was a tough one. Perhaps I should have taken it a bit more seriously. Just because I have done two mary's this year, doesn't mean a half is a walk in the park. Boy was I full of myself. Happy with my time with the few miles I put in between October and November.
What would you do differently?:

Train a bit more;)
Post race
Warm down:

Walked thru the finish shoot. Gathered my very cool medal. Took the finisher photo with a Vegas Dancer, found a lot of food...I was starving and headed out of the finisher area to find the Scharff's and the Schmeiser's. We were suppose to meet at the letter S, but nobody was there. Ben found me and took me to the others. Apparently they didn't see me pass thru the shoot. Walked around some more waiting for Clint to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of sleep:) Beer:) Food:)

Awesome race Terri! Remember, 9+3=12.

Sorry we didn't get together this weekend. Too bad we kept missing each other. I hope Clint's hammies are better!

Great job at the race!

Race organizers should not be allowed to do winding, snaking finishes at the end just to make up some distance. Nice job hanging tough.
