Does anyone know about the course for 2010?  Will it be the same as 2009 when the bike was two loops and the run was three loops?

Just looked at the setup site and it sure looks the same to me---and is listed as bike-2 loops/run-3 loops.  I'm looking forward to it!!!

I'm considering it this year as the opener. I did the Rumpass in Bumpass last year and the Giant Acorn the past two years. This is in a different place than those two, right?

I'm pretty sure that it is a different part of the lake.  The course description notes that it is near the energy plant and that is why it is typically several degrees warmer.  The Kinetic race is not near the energy plant.

I did my first OLY at Giant Acorn and plan to do Kenetic half.

Giant Acorn and Rumpus are on the eastern - southern side of the lake (sometime called warm side since this is where water returns from the power station) at a marina and Kenetic is in the middle - north side near the state park.  Definately different places.  Water tends to be cooler in the middle of the lake thats why they tend to mention warm water at Giant Acorn.

Yup definitely different places on Lake Anna---I did Giant Acorn in '08 as my first ever tri and then followed that up with Kinetic HIM May '09.  I'll be back for the HIM---it's actually at the Lake Anna State Park NOT the marina (where Giant Acorn is held).  The Park is a great setting also---much bigger hill getting up from the water to leave the park but it's all goodTongue out  Daniel I highly recommend the HIM---think of it was a great way to start off the season and get you ready for some IM training for B2BWink  (it's what I did last year...)

I'm running the race this year as a prep for the Lake Placid Full. my son (13) wants top do it with me but when i try to register him i get a "you don't meet the minimum age requirement for this event" message. Does anyone know what the age limit is and if a parent can waive it?Thanks.

I'm not sure on the age limits/requirement---try emailing Set-Up...

Anyone notice that this race is not only a Half-Max Champ qualifier but a World Champ qualifier for THIS year....kinda cool!!

I'm all signed up - this will be my first HIM.  STOKED!

Dumb question - anyone know the exact number of meters/yards for the swim?

Does 1.2 miles = 2112 yards (just over 84 lengths of a 25yd pool) = 1931 meters (just over 77 lengths of a 25 meter pool) ?

I'm planning to do the race distance in training a couple of times and need to figure out exactly what I'm in for...

Just so that you are aware---from doing the Kinetic HIM last year---the swim is two laps of the course----this actually means beach start, swim a lap (think rectangle), get out, run the length of the beach back to the start area and do it again....just fyi!!!

I wonder if the lifeguards will yell at me if I incorporate a 100 yd run around the pool when I do my race-distance training swim Tongue out

Run to the pool from your house and run back to your house.

Is this a race that could be done from a homebase in MD (on the beltway.)  I would like to run this one so that Eagleman wont be my first race of the year, but I dont want to do the whole rent-a-room-drag-the-family-down-for-a-weekend thing.  I can get to Fredricksburg (from Kensington, MD) in about an hour or so, so I would think I could get to lake anna in 2h. Yes?  Up at 4, leave at 5, arrive at 7, race at 9?  Does this sound marginally doable?

Also, can you pick up packets and drop of the bike that morning?

I do it from NoVA (about 1.5hr drive...) and last year I worked Fri (work afternoon/eves) and did exactly what you said---got up about 4a and was down there by 7---picked up packet, set-up trans and raced....not a problem!!!  If I remember correctly packet pick-up started at 7am for the 9am start...

The HIM looks like a 7am start, not 9am (at least that is what it is showing on Set-up).  Sprint is 9 though.  Maybe an error?  I sure would prefer 9am from a logistics point of view (race, not so sure).

Nope that's MY mistake---was 7 last year too (seemed wrong when I typed the times before since it was dark when I got there, packet pick-up...).  Still doesn't change my answers---except the timesWink

I'm doing the Kinetic as well.  Looking forward to this race.  This is my second HIM, and hope to do as well or better than my first. Glad I checked this forum because I didn't really read the info on it and assumed that it was in the same spots as Acorn. See ya all there!!

Nope---not the same as Acorn---that's the marina and this site is the State Park---still a great location...the whole run is in the park which makes it nice and peaceful (even if you suffer through the run!

If anyone has any specific question---about the course, etc feel free to ask here (or PM me if you don't wanna post here...) and I'll try to answer it---just keep in mind I only did this race last year---and it was my first HIM (2nd tri ever.......).

Kensington, that's right beside the 270 split, right? You're about 1.5-2 hours away from Lake Anna depending on how you drive. According to the page you can packet pickup the day of the race and I'm not seeing anything about bike check in prior.

There is no bike check in for this race until race morning.

I hope that it being a world qualifier doesn't bring all the fast folks in my a.g. out - I was thinking this would be an easy halfmax qualifier - now I'm thinking maybe not so much!!

Oops.  Dont know where I got the idea of a 9A start.  Thanks for the heads up.  I was getting 'push-back' from the wife for the early morning drive anyway.  Will just have to try and find a place as close as I can find.  It seemed like a good idea.

Signed up today.  Should be fun.
