Subject: Before and After Challenge--Weight Loss Evidence

If this is an inappropriate challenge because it involves posting photos please delete.

I'd like to challenge other triathletes to memorialize their weightloss with a Before and After Photo Challenge.  As triathletes I think we are pretty vain and love to show off our bodies...just look at the outfits we wear from Mankinis to Underwear Runs.   That said, many of us have weightloss goals as well as fitness/competitive goals.  Weightloss is easy to record by tracking numbers but that doesn't tell the whole story.  As we lose weight and change our composition, our bodies become more defined, sleek, and beautiful.  I think we should challenge ourselves to show this transformation.  Many successful programs on TV and in books have before and after photos of participants.  Why shouln't we?

Rules:

  1. Post tasteful (no nudity please) photos of yourself to use as your before shots.  A good rule for tasteful is if you can wear it in front of your mother or children while out in public, it is probably okay.
  2. Come back every month and post new pictures.
  3. Make a comparison and tell us how the changes make you feel.
  4. Motivate yourself for future progress through the witnessing of your transformation.

My Before Photos--Taken in June 2009.  Weight 197lbs.  Depressed and unmotivated.

After (in-progress) Photos: Taken December 4th, 2009  Weight: 188 lbs

Look at the difference:  Posture has improved, belly is smaller, manboobs are smaller.  Overall I love seeing that I am going in the right direction.  I'll take photos tonight and post to see what the Holidays did to me...hopefully not much.

Great challenge!  I am a HUGE fan of documenting weight loss with pictures!  Pictures are self-motivating.

This pic, I call "fatty" it's from IMKY 2008 (August)....I hate this pic because of how I look.  But I also love it, because it's a constant reminder of what I DON'T want to look like again.

fat

This pic is from IMKY 09 (August), I made a promise to myself while IM training to not GAIN weight!  I didn't gain and improved my body composition.

in

This pic is from Dec 2009.  I am very excited by results and look forward to continuing my progress.  Funny, but your can see how I actually get progressively happier in each picture!

Not sure I can post photos after Abbie's! Amazing...

I haven't taken a photo in awhile so I'll try and get one this week. I've lost 110+ lbs... and I'm aiming for another 40 as I train for IMOO so it might be nice to see how things change this year. In my case I'm just aiming for normal and not super-goddess.

Congratulations on the weightloss.  You are an inspiration for sure!  Can't wait to see your transformation.  IMOO training will definitely help you acheive your goals!

OMG, you are crazy, I am no super-goddess (but it does have a nice ring to it, lol)!  110 is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!  HUGE CHEERS for YOU!!!!!!  Post pics, it will keep you motivated.  I started posting pics in my log last year after IMKY when I decided I really needed to change my body.  Knowing that I had to post a pic in blog every Friday really made more accountable for everything.

I'm not focusing on losing weight this year but it would be nice to loss a little so what the h*ll I will join the club too... SmileI haven't lost anything since I started doing tris last year so I guess we will just have to see how well I do this year.
I will post my pictures up as soon as I take them. Are we suppose to post on our log page as well?

I think we should post on our blogs as well.  I like Abbie's plan on posting on our blogs every Friday (to keep us accountable) and then we cna post here monthly to really see the progress in one month intervals (where a bigger difference can be seen).  Great Idea!

Not intentional weight loss, per se. I have just changed my life and changed my lifestyle and taken off a layer of cheese and egg. Wink

I call this my Egg McMuffin layer.

It's been a long, strange trip. But it's all good. Laughing

EDITED TO ADD: It's only been about 12 lbs. But I've experienced a change in body composition that is AWESOME!

Oooooo, this sounds like a great challenge!  I feel like Abbie's "before" picture right now!  Sunday is my weigh in day and I've been totally slacking off on nutrition and training for the past couple of weeks, so I'm excited to join in.  Will post my pics on Sunday.

I'll post pictures this evening from home as I don't really have anything to hand. There are less 'before' pictures to choose from than after since I feel more comfortable being photo'd in the after stage!

The start was 255lbs, mid 30s BF (didn't start tracking BF until later)
This morning 171lbs, about 12% BF

Clothing has gone from 38" jeans to 30". XL/XXL to M.

That's the basic change! It started with diet change in late '06, then moved to exercise shortly after commuting to work on my bike. '07 my exercise was 99% cycling. Following a job change (bad move) '08 was mostly a year spent in the gym mixing up weights and cardio with very little cycling. Late '08 saw another job change and relocation to a bike friendlier area and bike came out again...

'09 added running into the mix, along with biking and gym time. Also duathlon racing.

Now my focus is on getting faster and leaner, rather than losing weight.

I've taken my bike average from somewhere around 17mph to about 20mph for most rides (22+ when I'm pushing it at race pace, race distance). Running started out at about 8:45/mile for 5k and is now sub 6:30/mile for the same distance.

Ok, all going well this picture will show up...

A before and after type shot in one.

Yes, I am Scottish...born and bred (lived there until I was 21). The vest isn't even as flattering as it could be!

Before and After

Before, when I lived in Hawaii (no, I didn't do any biking, running or swimming...yes, foolish!) after is about 5 years on...

WOW...GREAT TRANSFORMATION.  Isn't it funny that when we live somewhere where everyone is thin and fit we aren't.  I lived in FL for 2 years after college and was the fattest I've ver been there.  207 lbs on my frame was not pretty on the beach.  I have a picture I called my beached whale shot.

Great Job!

You could upload them to your BT album, and then link to them from there. Or, you could click the little "Add/Remove Attachments" link (just above the "Submit" button when you write a post). This will allow you to add a file (or files) to your post.

Welcome.  Even if you don't post pictures, I still recommend taking them.  Photos can really help motivate and keep us on track.  Posting them takes it that next step and lets other be involved (see) in your transformation which can be motivating (scary).  Take photos, hold on to them, and keep checking in with us.  We want everyone to have fun and succeed in a great personal, mental, and physical transformation.
