Noxema as chamois cream

Expert  1258    Marin County, California |  Subject: Noxema as chamois creamLast week I was looking for info about keeping my 'undercarrige' happy on the trainer, or at least not totally cranky. Lots of chamois cream was recommended which is great, but using Assos that gets spendy fast. Then I came across a post(on here) that someone suggested Noxema cold cream.... So, I'm an adventurous girl(I wouldn't be doing a IM if I weren't) so I thought I'd give it a whirl.... A thin layer of Assos, and a very generous layer of Noxema. Results were that it worked great. Quite numbing and tingly and felt good in a really wrong way, but my bottom end was happy for my 1.5 hour trainer rides, and for really cheap. Since I am no expert, does anyone know of a reason NOT to use Noxema??? |

People have seen women shove down Noxzema down their shorts during really long rides and centuries. They too have often commented that it has the "so good tingly" feeling down there. :-) I don't see any harm into doing it except don't use it if you have cuts (duh) and use it as an EXTERNAL lube. I personally rarely use any type of chamois cream, so I cannot comment on any advice. |

| Subject: RE: Noxema as chamois cream I just got a 16 Oz jar of Genes Vitamin E Creme Swiss Collagen Complex Moisturizing Creme from Sam's Club for about $5.00 to try. It seems to do a good job on the 2 hour ride on the rollers. It looks like it's going to last six months or so. |

Since it's petroleum based it can be a bit hard to get washed out, but if it's working for you then definitely no reason to stop. |

Or, in other words, if there is any reason I should stop using it... For me, personally, I don't like the texture, it tends to plug up pores which can cause saddle sores, it's a royal pain in the tucas to get out of clothing without washing the shorts by themselves soas not to get it in everything else, and your hand feels yicky until you've washed it six times with a grease cutting soap. There are people who swear by it, though, so that's got to just be a personal thing. |

Veteran 244 South Carolina | Subject: RE: Noxema as chamois cream I use Chamois Butt'r, but it gets spendy too. All of this gear-stuff, you have to watch the sales. Sometimes Nashbar and Performance Bike sell Chamois Butt'r, and sometimes at a good sale price. During IMFL, at one of the later rest stops they had a giant jar of vaseline. I decided to try it, and it worked. You should have seen the looks on the faces of the volunteers - no one else had used the brand-new jar all day, and they said, "Well, we wondered what that was for . . . " I warned them ahead of time to look the other way, especially the kids!! I've used it several times since, and have no issues with it washing out of clothes. Cheap, and works great. |

It's around $12-14.00 per tube. I use it very liberaly and it has worked for me on rides 100 miles plus. I've never used Noxema, but doesn't that product burn or tingle? I can't imagine putting it you know where. Although if it works for you stick with what works and makes you comfortable. Semper Fi! Oh, this was my opinion. I know of no reason why you shouldn't use Noxema. Scott  |
