Pre-race routine:

Up at 8. Last night was a Cafe Veritas show and I didn't get to sleep until about 3am so I was pretty beat.

Ken and Dud picked me up at 9 (thanks for driving Ken).
Event warmup:

Short jog including a couple pickups.
Run

Comments:

Mile 1 guy called out 7:20. I figured with the crowding at the start, I was actually running around a 7:12 which I knew was too fast given my weight and current running fitness. Kept up the pace anyway. Started to pay for it about a half mile later with a side stitch. I backed off the pace then and it didn't get any worse. Legs felt heavy. Just kept it in the uncomfortable but not really painful zone until the end. The last .2 mile is uphill and that hurt.

I've hardly raced in the last year or so, so this was a good mental training day. Haven't maintained that level of discomfort in a while.

Still it was beautiful day: Mid 30's with sun. To put that in perspective, it hasn't be above freezing here in weeks. Most of the time it's been under 20ยบ and snowing. Also I was told last night that when there were some breaks in the clouds this past Friday it was the first time we'd seen the sun in this area for 39 days which sounds about right. So mid 30's and sunny is really nice weather.
What would you do differently?:

This race just confirmed what I already knew: I need to lose weight, run more, do core work.
Post race
Warm down:

Watched Ken and Dud come in. Ken looked great especially considering his Goofy Challenge two weeks ago.

Went inside, got a couple pieces of pizza, coffee and a banana.
