Master 2460 | Subject: Afraid to wear my Cervelo kit I just received a really snazzy Cervelo team kit as a gift - someone knew I rode a Cervelo P2C, and did me the honors of buying a matching kit since I'd mentioned how "cool" it would be to have one (I currently own no "kits") and the giver was a triathlete themself. |

Veteran 369 Cabot, Arkansas | Subject: RE: Afraid to wear my Cervelo kit Man, I just got a P2 and it was the first bike besides some 99.00 wal-mart special I have ever ridden. I JUST took it on a first test ride and I suck, but you know what...I ordered the whole ensemble. Am I a poseur? Yep...probably. Do I care? Not one bike and I'll be the first to laugh at my biking skills, but then again, if I worried what people thought of me, I wouldn't be trying this out. It's like this tee-shirt I saw that I'm gonna get. "Triathlons...Why suck at one sport when you can suck at three?" Wear it, enjoy it...have fun. I know I will. Besides, if they laugh too much, I'll just get off(fall because I forgot to remove my shoes from clips first...then I'll get back up and) kick their arses. LOL |

I love your attitude. Yeah, man wear the shirt- it's certainly no worse than riding a P2C slowly. For what it's worth, I have a pretty nice carbon bike. Last 2 races I was last in my age group. Nobody cared. Oh yeah, I was wearing a new trisuit, and hot 20 something chick passed me (slowly) on the bike. She came up to me after the race during the cookies and cry celebrations and we talked for half an hour. If she was 10 years older and not in med school I would have asked her out. |

Sounds like you definitely should have asked her out! (Assuming of course, that there's no S.O. or wifey! ) That's a great age bracket difference and the med school thing should be able to fund your pricey trihabit for years to come! |

Veteran 369 Cabot, Arkansas | Subject: RE: Afraid to wear my Cervelo kit I was searchin Triathlon Shirts. I wanted to get a pair for my twins to drool on for my first one I do. I thought the "My Daddy is faster that your daddy" would just get them laughed at, espicially if some of the other kids had "My Mommy is faster than you Daddy" tee shirts next to them. I found it better just going to cafe press and making your own. Like... (in kiddie font) "i'm here to cheer on my DADDY" with the race, location and date underneath. Something for them to keep. I also saw some cool IRONORPHAN and IRONWIDOW ones for those that leave their famlies to train all the time, but I think my SPRINTORPHAN and SPRINTWIDOW would draw even stranger looks Hey, I know what I am good with. I can fight...that I do know and can actually say am a "Pro" at. As far as this Tri thing...just another Hobby to have fun with. |

Expert 1053 Culpeper, VA | Subject: RE: Afraid to wear my Cervelo kit No I'm not afraid to wear any of my gear. I get razzed from older riders for a little different garment issue and that is not wearing a jersey when it is nice and warm outside. One of them cautioned me that I might get a nasty road rash if I crashed... like polyester is this impermeable material. Either way I'm way past what others think or say about what I'm wearing/not wearing. |

Veteran 237 Buffalo Grove | Subject: RE: Afraid to wear my Cervelo kit I ride a P3 and my GF bought me a Cervelo Test Team Kit for XMAS. Wore that kit during a group ride in Kona. Was I a poser... you bet. So what.... you ride a Cervelo, wear the kit. Just think, it cost a lot of money and it would be nice of you to wear it. If the Roadies dont like it.... who really cares. Are you out there for you or for them? You could think of it this way as well, If you wear it and do not want to be passed by the roadies it will force you to ride thatmuich faster / harder.... good training motivation. |

Champion 5312 Calgary | Subject: RE: Afraid to wear my Cervelo kit That's funny. But natural. It is weird how things (clothes) take on a sort of epic importance when they are new or unique to you. Like driving a new car, I am like, is everyone watching me. Or wearing a new suit or tie I am like, what do people think. Yeah, no one cares what you wear or what you do as long as you keep it to yourself, except those vain and self important type that want to be part of some special club that only those that are equally vain and self important can belong, said club existing for the sole purpose of exclude those that aren't part of the club. |

Champion 5868 Urbandale, IA | Subject: RE: Afraid to wear my Cervelo kit Funny. I was riding in a charity event at the end of last year and I was wearing my Team USA jersey. we came to a stopping point and I was talking to some other members of my team that were wearing their Triathlons for Transplants jerseys (mine was dirty and smelled bad). A few guys that were obviously excellent riders were kind of looking over at us, off and on. We all assumed that they were curious about TfT. I went to go get some water and one of the guys says to me - "you must be a hell of a rider to race for Team USA - will you be in the next olympics?" Now, we all know that this was his passive-agressive way of telling me I hadn't earned that jersey. So, I looked at him and said, "no, this is actually the team jersey from the 2009 World Transplant games where I won silver in the Time Trial and Bronze in the Road Race. Would you like to see my scar, or are you just intent on being an a$$?" He had no reply and I moved on to get my water. I have no patience for people that think that they ride faster so they are more inclined to wear "cool" stuff. STFU and mind your own business. |

Veteran 281 Charlestown | Subject: RE: Afraid to wear my Cervelo kit Everyone knows that looking good makes you faster - so my advice is stop worrying so much cause throwing on that gear is gonna add speed almost instantly. Rock it with pride...i'm jealous of your ride and your kit and it doesn't matter how slow/fast you are! |

Expert 1049 Burnaby, BC | Subject: RE: Afraid to wear my Cervelo kit My advice, wear what you like and be true to who you are. Don't pretend to be a super fast Team Cervelo wanna be. Be honest about being a guy who likes to ride a bike with matching kit. You may get a little teasing on the group rides, but you'll fit in by being yourself and being honest about how you ride. Worrying about being seen as a poseur is the first sign that you're becoming a poseur. |

Master 2460 | Subject: RE: Afraid to wear my Cervelo kit I think the hesistance to wear it is really due to the pure roadies. Not that roadies are bad people (I love riding with fast ones!) but they get very cliquish because of the safety preferences of riding with riders whom they know well, often team-mates. When a newbie of any sort shows up on their ride, it's usually suspicion until they prove otherwise, and I can understand that due to their fast (25+mph on flats is the norm in our group) close quarters riding. Trifolks are a whole nother situation though. I honestly haven't met ANY trifolks who would think the Cervelo kit was over-the-top, and that's the only group I would wear it with proudly. Unfortunately, I tend to be fast enough to drop most of the trigroup, and then I usually get caught by a big pack of Cat1/2 roadies on the PCH who then proceed to blow by me...doh. |
