Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! kkcbelle - 2010-10-05 2:29 PM My hackles are up. I was out doing a decently easy lovely 4-mile run today, late morning. On my way back, I was running in the bike lane on a not-very-busy street. I choose running on the road to the sidewalk when it's safe, because I prefer the camber, softer surface, and don't like the undulations of driveways. I'm very aware of car and bike traffic and always hop up on the sidewalk if there is a cyclist or a wide car coming my way. So anyway, happily running along when I hear a hostile shout, "GET UP ON THE D*M# SIDEWALK!!" I turn to see a camo-wearing truck-driving bitter old man totally getting PO'ed at me, yelling at me to get off the road. I am going against traffic. He is going in the same direction as I am (opposite side of the road), so I am not affecting him in the least!! WTF? Seriously???? He shot me dirty looks and shouts as he took a left turn in front of me (with tons of room -- I was not at the intersection yet). Of course after my adrenaline calmed down I came up with numerous choice come-backs, but I'm glad I took the high road and held my tongue. I was wearing a pink skirt with pink spankies, and maybe in hindsight I should have flashed him some pink cougar bootie. And lest you think I'm judging him for wearing camo and driving a truck, I AM NOT. I happen to train my dog for hunt tests (it's one of my main non-tri, non-kid hobbies) and I, too, wear camo (and am learning how to handle a gun alongside my dog, etc.). I'm just judging him for being grumpy. And rude. OK. PHEW. Got that off my chest. Sorry if I sound bitter. If I can't gripe about this stuff here, where can I? Maybe he was po'd because he only got a good hindsight I generally do all my running in the bike lane also. As you said it is much easier on the legs as the pavement is safte than the concrete sidewalk Edited by Redknight 2010-10-06 3:06 PM |

As you said it is much easier on the legs as the pavement is safte than the concrete sidewalk lol. I also run in the bike lane whenever possible. I obviously keep my head up to look for bikes and hop back up on the sidewalk well before they reach me. Running on the road vs sidewalk always seems to hurt the joints less. |

I've worked hard for it and want to make it mine. BQ aspirations? What is your BQ time ... like 3:51:58? REPRESENT! I'd take Linda's 3:33 in a heartbeat... but really, to spare 2 minutes for the BQ a 3:48 will do. BQ for Cougars is 3:50. My current PR (same course last year, much less training) is a 3:57. I plan to represent. I plan to enter the Hurt Locker and love it while I hang out there. I plan to run a little faster early on than my brain tells me to (I am the queen of going out conservatively). And yeah, BQ aspirations for sure. But above all else, I plan to have fun, to smile, to appreciate what I've done and what I can do, to embrace and love the day, and to be thankful for the opportunities. |

B4 WORK! http://adventuresofthebirds.blogspot.com/ Awesome! And that is one heck of a before work adventure!! TOTALLY. I have yet to hike Mt. Si. Have done Little Si with the kids a few times -- they are great hikers! Sometime I'd LOVE to do a sunrise hike with you, Steve, if you're up for it again! (Although I don't know if I could keep up!!) Gorgeous photos. It's been such a beautiful week. Rainier has been stunning from 520. |

Champion 9060 Charlottesville, Virginia | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! Not sure if anyone listens to the Tri-Talk podcasts. I usually listen to talking vs. music on my runs lately seems to take my mind off running the same routes over and over again. Anyways, the latest one was done by instead of the normal guy. This podcast is on pre and post race nutrition. Pretty good stuff, and for John, he has lots of degrees in the subject in which he is discussing, plus references lots of studies and cites some specific studies for all his reasons. And for me he is a coach and athlete so he has actually "practiced what he preaches" Nothing earth shattering over all but still I think pretty informative. One thing he does discuss is the thought that you must get in protein and carbs within 30 minutes of a race/hard workout and how that it's not really true, unless you used up all your stores and then were going to workout again within 6-8 hours after that race/workout. EDIT: LOL, not sure why B3n Gr33nfi3ld's name is in the word filter but that's who did the podcast, it keeps taking his name out. I'll ask Marma why that is. Edited by dalessit 2010-10-07 8:41 AM |

He gave me his POV, but what's yours? figure out how to get your legs to float with out the pull buoy... WOW, so helpful and I am usually so NICE TO YOU! Hmmmm, need to reconsider that strategy (thinking evil thoughts now) Anywho according to the Master's coach, I have a right leg that juts out when I am pulling on the left which he thinks is the biggest issue, but I do have some sinking legs if I don't remember to push my non-existent chest down. He also meanly (like George) suggested a little less muscle in my legs...nice. His idea was to point my toes and pause when I go to breathe in hopes that will calm down that weird right leg. I've heard of using a rubber band....what say the experts on either idea?? Won't be back in the pool until Tuesday to test any of this, but the more ideas the merrier. ? |
